Tag — You're It!.jpg
:think: I will decode the body tag for you...

Here is a breakdown of the information on the body tag you provided...
BODY TAG INFO:

08B
Body Build Date: 08 = August (1962), B = Second Week :zzzz: (A Late Bloomer!)
A late bloomer is one that fulfills their potential later than expected; they often have talents that aren't visible to others initially.
The first digits are numbers 1 through 12, indicating the month of manufacture. The letter is A-E, indicate the week of the month. If the letter is a "B" it indicates the second week of the month.
This code represents the date the body was completed by Fisher body. The body would then be delivered to the Chevy side to install the drivetrain and complete the car. There is a definite time interval between when the body was completed and delivered and when the car was finished on the Chevy side and a VIN number assigned. This was usually within a week or two, but sometimes could be longer. This system gives rise to the possibility of a body built date at the end of one month and a final production date at the start of the subsequent month. Fisher would also deliver bodies in groups and was known to sometimes hold back bodies for one reason or another, so it is possible to have cars bodies that are out of sequence with the VIN numbers. (i.e. body 8 has a Vin # higher than body 12).

STYLE 62 0927 BODY OA 4546
62 = 1962
Model 0927 — 2-Door Monza Club Coupe — 4 Passenger, 09 = 900 Series Monza, 27 = 2-Door Club Coupe,
OA = Oakland, California Production Plant, Production Sequence No: 4546
1962 Monza 2-Door Coupe — 4 Passenger, Total Production: 144,844 (Spyder 2D Coupe: 6,894)

Oakland Assembly was a former Chevrolet manufacturing facility located in Elmhurst, Oakland, California. It was the first automobile plant established in Northern California to build Chevrolet vehicles. In 1916, Chevrolet opened the auto industry's first West Coast assembly plant in Oakland. Production of the Chevrolet Series 490 began on Sept. 23, 1916, while World War I was taking place (28 July 1914 – 11 November 1918).

The plant stopped producing automobiles for commercial use on January 30 1942 until August 20 1945, and contributed to the war effort during World War II producing munitions, Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines, 90mm guns and billions of pounds of aluminum forgings, magnesium castings and grey iron castings. The Chevrolet Fleetline remained in production during the war but only for military uses. It received the United States Army-Navy "E" Award for operational excellence. It was approximately 6 miles east of the former Naval Air Station Alameda.

When commercial manufacturing resumed, Chevrolet's most well known vehicles during the 1950s were built at the facility, to include the so called "Tri-Five" 1955–1957 Chevrolet coupes, sedans and station wagons. The factory was recognized that the facility needed to be upgraded for more modern manufacturing methods and in the summer of 1963, it was replaced by Fremont Assembly. It is now the Eastmont Town Center at the corner of 73rd Street and MacArthur Blvd.

...I was at Chevrolet Oakland at that time...the 1963 model year close-out and closing of the plant forever [69th St. and Foothill Blvd.] was in about August of that year. The total number of '63 Monza coupes with the Spyder option was 11,627, split between Willow Run and Oakland [about 5,813]. The picture you have up is of the Fremont, Ca. plant, now Tesla...Chevrolet Oakland was the old, turn of the century Durant plant that was starting to fall down...lots of red bricks and small windows! It is a shopping center now. Paul

TRIM 5-781 09 NOTE: I have not been able to determine the meaning of "09" on the TRIM line. :dontknow:
781 = RED (Monza with Bucket Seats)
This 3 digit codes represents the interior paint and upholstery color and seat type.

The 1962-63 Corvairs have an extra digit on the trim or paint section of the tag. Oakland cars have the code on the trim line.
Interior paint codes:
1962: 2= Blue 3= Aqua 4= Fawn 5= Red 7= Black 8= Saddle 9= Gold

BODY PAINT 923
923 = RED "Roman Red"
Lucite No. 2931LH, Rinshed-Mason No. A1138R, Ditzler No. DDL70961

ACC: H X E 8753 NOTE: I have not been able to determine the meaning of "8753" on the accessory line. :dontknow:

ACC = Accessory line
When decoding ACC line on the Fisher body tags, be aware that body tags do not include any options that did not require any body modification be done by Fisher. Fisher was only concerned with items that required modifications during the assembly of the body. A good example is that you won’t find Telescopic column listed on the body tag. Although this is a major option, it did not require any special consideration during body assembly. Top color is listed on the ACC line for 1962 Convertibles. Also there are no group numbers in the 1962 ACC line, and 63 Oakland cars

Oakland body tag codes (NO Group Numbers i.e. no numeric indicator)

H = Direct air Heater (Always listed 1st and listed on every OA car in survey)
X = Spyder option
E = Tint glass (all windows)

The VIN tag is located in the left door jamb.

It appears that you have been blessed as the owner of a historically significant, all original and perfect showroom example of a 1st year Corvair Spyder, with all five Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, no less! In the photos, it appears to be flawless.

Take good care of it, and if your wife forces you to sell it because it is RED, please sell it to me!!! :pray: :not worthy:

The few upgrades, with the dual master cylinder, alternator, custom gauges, and modern radio are understandable, and does not really diminish the car's original stature. ::-):
