Window Crank Handle Install

I replaced the rear seat panels in my '65 convertible. What's the trick to reinstalling the window handle? I've inserted the clip in the handle, and expected to just pop on the handle. I added a sheet of insulation to the inside of the panel. Is this keeping the handle from going deep enough on the crank shaft to secure it into place? Thanks for your help!

You just push it on. If the panel is thicker it won't fit.

A thin moisture barrier behind the panel should not cause an issue. At one time Clark's catalog incorrectly showed the addition of a spring behind all the panels that isn't used some instances - I can't remember about the convertible.

Is the handle NEW?

I've had problems with the clips on the new handles. They either aren't the correct shape or the "legs" are too long and catch on the plastic rub spacer behind the handle. I keep the original clips when I replace the handles and use them

BTW - a very light coating of WD-40 on the winder shaft will help.

Thanks for the responses and insight. The handle isn't new. I'm not sure if the clip has enough integrity to hold onto the shaft, or if the insulation I added is too thick for me to push on the handle. I'll take off the panel and insulation to better understand the issue.

I generally put handle in position and give it a rap with my fist

To close the loop on this one.....

I removed the insulation from behind the panel and was able to snap on the handle w/o issue.
