Front bucket seats

Post by gnrand »

I recently purchased a '65 Corsa that needs front seats (current front seats are out of a Buick). I found some '64-65 GTO buckets that I think are the same but not sure.

I think they are the same underneath the upholstery. I noticed your post because I just removed a set of old rotted bucket seats from a 65 Monza I'm parting out. I was looking on eBay and see others listing those seats as correct for more than just Corvairs.

Here is the ad I saw.

Thanks Dave, the GTO seats I saw were on Craigslist.

The first generation bucket seat frames are very similar on the GM cars. The one difference is the mounting of the seat frame rails and mounting to the floor. Sorry I don't know what works in the different cars.

what color interior are you looking for? I have 2 front bucket seats (but I believe they're for a 67? I can send pictures later if interested) but they're a light blue/turquoise color.

FYI...

I don't know if you want seats that are correct for your 65 but 67-69 Corvair bucket seats are completely different than those used in 65-66. They have a much thinner back.

In the pictures below you can clearly see the differences between Early Late Model Corvair seats (1965-66), which were similar to those found in EM Corvairs with bucket seats, and Late Late Model Corvair seats (1967-69), which were similar to those found in the early model Camaro...

The last of the Corvairs found much of the interior style and trim duplicating that found in 1967-1969 Camaros.

Cincinnati, OH is where I'm located. I have a set of black seats as well I'd possibly be willing to part with, but as the previous poster said it's not the proper style so probably not. Good luck finding your seats!

A bit off the main thread, and I know this sounds sacrilegious, but could I obtain a small amount of safety by mounting buckets from a modern convertible ? I believe I could then benefit from the 3-point inertial belt they possess. Is this feasible? Thank you for your replies!

You can. A number of people have installed buckets with integral 3 point belts in Corvairs. The most common I believe is from Chrysler Sebring models. Perhaps someone will chime in with more specifics. If you get no more info here ask around at corvaircenter.com.

Thank you so much for your help! Have had my ‘63 for a month, now. Brings back memories of the ‘60 I bought from a neighbor for $10 as a thoroughly clapped-out field car! I was 13 at the time. Car was about 9.
