Hello, I'm building a new drive train for my '64 Monza 2 coupe. I've got an extra '64 differential and a rebuilt engine.
For the transmission, what I had bought bolted to a '65 differential was a '66 Saginaw that I thought was a '65 until I got the gasket set from Clark's.
My question is for someone who has done this swap, besides the '66 input shaft, what else is needed? Cross member, etc?
Thank you, George

Re: '66 Saginaw
An article was posted here some time ago about the the problem of using a 65 or earlier ring and pinion shaft with a 66 or later (revised transmission).
The 66 and later models have a shorter ring and pinion shaft to accommodate the revised 66 and later transmission. If you install a 66 transmission on a differential with the 65 or earlier ring and pinion shaft it will bind the transmission main shaft bearings and eventually KABOOOM!!
Transmission rebuilder Dan Drommerhausen and the folks at SCC in L.A., CA discovered this due to the fact the ring and pinion shaft inner splines are wearing out and there are no new replacements now. Folks were installing the earlier pinion shafts in 66 and later differentials and the transmissions were blowing up. Not enough clearance.
So ---- NO you can't do that.

Re: '66 Saginaw
I've pretty much discovered this is way more trouble than I'm willing to take on. Thanks for the info.
