Battery box

Post by JohnnyBoomBoom »

I see aluminum battery boxes in the OPG catalog. Considering one for my Corsa to dress up the engine compartment. Anyone see any problems with encasing the battery in one of these ?

Looks to big to me but it's been years since I had a late model.

My battery shelf was eaten away from age and acid. Went to local sheet metal supplier, purchased a piece of metal approximately the right size.
Cut it to shape and welded it over the rotted parts. Then sprayed with undercoating. Used standard hold down. Looks good for shows! No one has ever mentioned that it did not look correct.

If your battery is the right height, width & length it should work.

Image OPGI Price $205.99 (Each)
Taylor Battery Box, Aluminum 11-1/4" X 9-1/2" X 8-3/4" Box W/Logo w/16' 1-gauge cables
CH27117

Complies with NHRA rule 8:1. Required by NHRA when there is no firewall between the driver's compartment and the battery. Three-piece .040" aluminum box design allows access without removing the battery from the box. Hard mounts the battery to the frame with supplied 3/8" bolts. Battery hold-down and hardware included.

Personally, I don't like the metal box. I would prefer one of these...

An OPTIMA battery provides an attractive, high-tech look, advanced technology, that can be mounted in a number of stylish battery mounts. You might consider something like this...

By the way, the plastic battery box I listed works great in the late model Corvair battery area. It protects the battery by securing it and preventing accidental shorts, and protects the Corvair sheet metal area from corrosion and rust caused by battery acid contamination. They are inexpensive, but I don't know if they would fit in the space available in an early model Corvair.

Those billet ones are cool! I'll probably end up going with a plastic one for me though.

For a LM, if you want to hide the battery and I don't blame you if you do, check out American Pi's engine compartment side covers. Super easy to install.
