Re: Difficult issue to diagnose
I Thank everyone for their comments. I am almost too embarrassed to say what the problem was.... Once I got the car into the air and me underneath the problem was obvious. The 6ga red wire was EVER SO close to the purple wire at the Starter solenoid. There was a bit of burnt/weld residue on the ...

Re: Difficult issue to diagnose
Decided to replace the Solenoid - ordered from Clark's (wanted the Delco). The starter rebuilder most likely used a cheap Chinese solenoid. Clark's delivery will not be here till next week.
Thanks again,
Steve D.

Re: Difficult issue to diagnose
Understand what Brad said in his response above and I am in agreement as to the solenoid being the likely problem, Thank You. My thinking however is that it was the negative cable/terminal that had built up heat and melted the green knob on the terminal quick disconnect. Would it not be the Positive ...

Difficult issue to diagnose
This potential serious issue will be hard to describe, here go's.
On a long 400 mile trip, I was on the interstate running 65 mph (3200 rpm), Cylinder head temp about 375 deg. About 150 miles in, I felt what I thought was a cylinder miss. I looked at the Tach and it was fluctuating back and forth ...

Re: Two Issues - Gas Mileage & Harmonic Balancer
I've spoken with Ray Sedman and have ordered the SafeGuard thru Ray. I am planning to mount the safeguard under the rear seat. The Knock sensor exactly where Nashfan did at the 3/8" bolt next to the intake manifold. Unit will take a few weeks to get to me.
Thanks,
Steve D.

Re: Two Issues - Gas Mileage & Harmonic Balancer
Hello,
Special, Thank You's to bbodie and nashfan for the information. I am leaning towards the Safeguard unit by J & S Electronics as a cure for my 'ping' issues. I've sent a email to J&S for recommendations, cost, etc. I've given them what I believe to be all the information they may need to make ...

Re: Two Issues - Gas Mileage & Harmonic Balancer
OK Guy's, Today I played with timing. First, I timed the engine to 20 BTDC from 24 - went for a test drive - still pinged. Timed to 22 BTDC -still pinged. Next I timed to 25 - still pinged. I then went back to the original 24 BTDC still pinged, but this is where the engine runs best.

Re: Two Issues - Gas Mileage & Harmonic Balancer
Hello All, First let me say, Thank you to all that contributed comments/suggestions, etc. I have put some of the suggestions into practice.
Timing mark on the Harmonic Balancer, turns out the engine was way-way out of time to where the mark was hiding under the oil fill tube casting.

Re: Two Issues - Gas Mileage & Harmonic Balancer
Yes, the Timing mark is about 2 degrees to the left of zero on the scale when the rotor is in line with #1 cyl. I can only say 'about' because the timing mark is right at the edge of the scale tab. I am aware that the crank/HB rotate CCW and that the distributer rotates CW.

Two Issues - Gas Mileage & Harmonic Balancer
Hello All,
Gas mileage on my '65 Corsa 180 Turbo, is unacceptable at 11.1 MPG. Carburetor is the Weber 45DCOE rebuilt by Ray Sedman. Car is running good, No Bogging, Good Pick and Go. Should not the gas mileage with the Weber be about 16? That is my first problem. I've completed a tune up with new ...

2 has a slight amount of white. I have not removed the the right tins or manifold off as of yet. I do not know what 1,3 and 5 look like. Think I want to check Compression first. Will check on Thursday.
