Re: Brake Lines

That's the only way to do it right. I have seen parts cars where the lines were run into the trunk, but I don't recommend it.

Re: Center console questions

Looks G.M.-ish, but definitely not a Corvair piece.

Re: 1960 3 speed transmission

Have you readjusted your shift linkage? Try loosening the coupler bolt and make sure you can move the coupler freely. Then disconnect the coupler from the trans and using a screwdriver or drift manually engage 3rd gear fully. Then move the shift lever fully into the 3rd gear position. Have someone h...

Re: CORVAIR FC 95 Vs FORD ECONOLINE & VW VINTAGE FILM

One disadvantage of the Corvair vans that was conveniently ignored was that for those who needed a truck for the building trades, 4'X8' sheets of plywood or drywall could not be flat-loaded through the Corvair's rear doors.

Re: CORVAIR FC 95 Vs FORD ECONOLINE & VW VINTAGE FILM

Did anyone else notice the snazzy wheel covers on the 2-tone Rampside? Too bad they weren't actually available to the public.

Re: 140 HP HEADS FOR A TURBO APPLICATION ???

Tom Keosababian did this in the late '60s. His car, which was otherwise surprisingly stock, ran with musclecars of the day. But water injection was a must to prevent detonation.

Re: Trouble starting and flooding.

X2 on the fuel pressure regulator. It also helps to set the float level 1/8" less than the factory specs. Also be sure that the fuel return line on the fuel filter is in place and plumbed to the fuel tank.

Re: Headrests and center caps?

I can't help with the wheel centers, but the headrests shown are aftermarket and were sold by several manufacturers "back in the day." I would think that they should appear on Ebay from time to time. Note that some of these headrests are intended to be screwed into the upholstery on the se...

Re: Cooling my 63 Spyder

Easiest and cheapest -- deflash cylinder heads and remove lower engine shrouds. Be sure your oil cooler is clean also. These things are free and will provide real results. Finned pan and valve covers look pretty (I have them on my cars) but I'm skeptical about any noticeable decrease in oil temps.

Re: Pertronix/ballast resistor head scratcher

All Corvairs were equipped with ballast resistors, either a wire in the harness or a separate resistor bock ('62-'63 Spyder.) If you had driven the '67 for any length of time with points and no ballast resistor you would have experienced frequent points failure. That's what the ballast resistor is f...

Re: 62 Greenbrier vin tag

I have a Loadside that was originally a military vehicle. From others I've seen, most, if not al,l FC's originally bought by government agencies had gas heaters, emergency flashers, seat belts and special paint codes as delivered. Are you sure you van is a Greenbrier? Even if it has Greenbrier emble...

If only one primary carb is good the car will still idle OK. Try swapping the secondaries from side to side and see if the trouble moves with the carb.

Re: 63 102HP engine value

The factory did offer the 102 with Powerglide. Not a great combination, but doable. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the 102. (I have one in my '63 Monza.) That said, if I had a decent-running 102 to sell I'd probably ask $300-$350.
