Re: Corvair Meet AZ: Unofficial? Sat Oct 1

Dave, was sorry to have missed your car. It was a scramble for me to get there by a bit after noon.
But was able to see a nice turnout. I look forward to the next one. Do ever attend the Wednesday
meetings? I drove my 65 Corsa HT (old smokey) to the show. Good peeps!

140 4spd engine with automatic cam?

I am looking at purchasing a rebuilt 140. The owner says it was cammed for an auto.
In my car it will be mated to '65 4spd, how can I expect it to behave/perform?
Is it true I will have better low end? Do I sacrifice much mid/top end?
Thanks in advance.

Corvair Meet AZ: Unofficial? Sat Oct 1

Corvair meet for the local corvair owners. 8am-4pm at Thoroughbred Chevy in Chandler. Bring
food items to donate to local food banks. Lets get as many corvairs there as possible, any condition. Usually
about 20-30 cars.

Re: Stock cam vs 260

Otto 20 eh? I will look into it. I didn't hear from anybody about how long I should expect the cam replacement to take?
After the heads and cylinders are already off. Thanks.

Re: Stock cam vs 260

Yeah, not sold on the idea of splitting case right now. If I do that then I will want to get a new crank and on and on.
I will update as I get further down the road on this.

Re: Stock cam vs 260

Yes, it has the factory 4 spd. 270 seems the consensus right now. How does the 270 idle? I actually don't like the way a 280 idles, especially with the stock exhaust i will be running. Sure wish I could drop the coin on angled exhaust and headers. Maybe in a couple years. How much time should I ...

Stock cam vs 260

I love all the technical expertise of many of the members here. I am just about to put my 140 heads and carbs etc on my 110 engine. Engine will be dropped. Can anyone tell me the approximate HP gain from putting in a 260 cam vs. my current stock cam. I say 260 cause I don't want to lose low end ...

Re: 140 heads on 110 yes or no??

Ahhh..I also do have the 140 manifolds. True, not sure about the smoke till I pull heads. But I think its guides/seals the way it smokes under vacuum when taking foot off the throttle. If its a combination of the two then I will have to invest in cylinders/pistons...probably .040 over.

140 heads on 110 yes or no??

Somewhere probably been covered. Did do a search. Ok, I guess I have two questions for you all:
1) Is there any difference between a 110 carb and 140 primary?

2) Background: I have a very good running but heavy smoking 110 in my 65 Corsa. I have just purchased 140 heads
(exceptionally nice stock ...

Re: Deep valve seat installer-Phoenix

Yes you have! The heads are in such good condition though I may just put on new springs, rockers, etc and go for it.
I don't plan to abuse it (not often) so not sure what I will do. Just time and $.

Re: What Would You Pay-Orig Engine?

Thanks guys. Well best he would do was $850 for the lot. Plus I would have at least $200 in getting it shipped. So no deal. More than likely the heads and at least one piston probably looked like Zack's which he recently posted..not good.
Update: Found two near perfect 140 heads, the 4 carbs ...

Deep valve seat installer-Phoenix

Any recommendations out there for a good corvair deep valve seat installer for my 140 heads in Phoenix AZ?
Any names and possibly numbers if you have them?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Dropped Valve Seat... Nice

Ouch...good pictures though. I guess this is a good reason to have deep seats put in the stock 140 heads I just picked up BEFORE I install in the car!! Thanks for opening it up and showing us the result even at low speed!

Re: What Would You Pay-Orig Engine?

Zach,

I am interested in hearing more about your 140. I am in Phoenix so shipping via commercial carrier like Conway won't cost too much. The other deal fell through. I asked to see pics of engine with heads removed. I don't think he doesn't want to do it
because of what he'll find but just too ...

Re: What Would You Pay-Orig Engine?

Thanks for the response. I thought $200 was significantly on the low side. Particularly since he has 3 complete sets of carbs, six primary, and six secondary. So I went ahead and offered him $350. Well he wasn't an ...hole about it but basically told me to get lost. My gut told me I was at least a ...
