Fuel filler neck.

Hi All,
I have removed the fuel tank from my 62, 700 4dr. How do you remove the fuel filler neck/pipes?
Do they pull out of the car or do you push them in towards the wheel arch?

Generally you don't need to remove the filler pipe from the car.

On the 63 that I did, the grommet had to come out with the filler pipe. The grommet is installed from the top side. So, from inside the wheel arch, it goes up and out thru the filler door. With a liberal dose of dish soap and a fair bit of luck it will come out in one piece. I would anticipate the 50 year old grommet will not come out in one piece.

Many remove the filler neck and the tank. Installing new hoses with the same
spacing as original, then installing everything back. The filler neck grommet
usually fits snug in the filler neck. S many remove it, then re-install it last. If
the rubber is too hard, there are new ones. Not real cheap, but available.

Installing the tank without the filler neck is also possible. But it's extremely close
quarters to get to the hose clamps.... unless it's a Corvair FC Truck or Van.
