1965, 1966 4 speed transmission swap

Post by jeffmort »

I have a 1965 Corsa turbo 4-speed car. It currently has a 1966 transmission and differential - this is the way the car was when I bought it.
For various reasons, I will be removing the 66 trans/diff and installing a 65 trans/diff.
My questions is, other than the 65 trans/diff that I need to find, what other parts will I need to complete the install? I don't have any of the "old" 65 parts that I will need - they are long gone.
My research has come up with the following parts I will need:
1) '65 crossmember/trans support (used part)
2) '65 u-joint straps/bolts (used part)
3) '65 shift tube stabilizing rod (used part)
4) '65 shift rod (used)
5) '65 shifter coupler (used)
6) '65 back up light switch/wiring (likely Clarks "fix it" kit)
Am I correct with my parts list? I am missing anything?
Thanks in advance.
Jeff

You can swap the '66 style yokes and use the '66 straps.
It is my understanding the Clark's backup kit is the '65 and earlier 3-speed switch setup. It is a lot better than the 4-speed switch from the same years except for the adjustment. Does your car currently use the '66 switch?
I've never seen a '65 3-speed so I'm not sure how the switch works since you have an inner and outer tube. '64 and earlier had an exposed tube the switch worked with.

I believe that I have a '65 backup light switch and the wiring connector for it. I have a '66 4 speed in my 65 CORSA. The previous owner installed the 65 switch in the 66 transmission which of course doesn't work. I replaced the 65 switch for a 66 switch and all is good. Anyway the 65 is useless to me. If you want it you can have it for the shipping cost. PM me with an address if interested.
