1960 Monza Coupe
1960 Monza Coupe
My latest Corvair. I bought this 1960 coupe September 1st 2020. Up till this car all I’ve ever bought before were non running projects. While this one technically runs, it’s not drivable. The transmission and or diff makes some very scary sounds, especially on deceleration.
I have a ‘64 coupe in the backyard (was my dads car until he bought another one) that a friend of mine pulled the transmission and diff out for me so we can replace the ones in the 60. I forgot to mention the 60 has a 65 110 with mild cam in it and a 4 speed.

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
I’ve bought allot of parts from Clark’s for it. In fact I’ve now spent more on parts than I did for the car. Parts are EXPENSIVE lol
I had some wheels for another 63 coupe project that I’m now painting to put on the 60 while I look into getting the cragers restored. The current tires are too big. But here’s the test fit.
Also found spacers in all the springs so I’ll be needing to order new suspension parts as well. Sent from my iPhone using Corvair Forum mobile app

Tried to install a new steering wheel. That didn’t go as planned either. Apparently there are two different 6 hole bolt circles in the steering wheel Industry. The 6 hole GM pattern which the adapter has and the 6 hole MOMO pattern which the wheel has.

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
Man, that's a killer look! Have you driven it with that motor yet?
Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
I have driven it just up and down the street and the drivetrain makes a horrible sound.

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
Took a peak underneath last night. Kinda scary. I know the tanks are not easily found for the ‘60s. I’m worried.

Seth Emerson has a fix for the steering wheel. I had the same issue and his adapter worked great.Scott H wrote:Tried to install a new steering wheel. That didn’t go as planned either. Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
i remember seeing this car parked outside the fan belt toss a few years ago. i believe the owner was from Arizona. It looked really nice from the outside.
I have a very clean 1960 tank that i wont be using anymore. Im in Pasadena if youre interested in it.

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
Just awesome, I had a brown automatic '60 coupe with gas heater for many years and loved it.
So '60 gas tanks are unique? FYI, I just sealed my '67 tank using Red Kote with good results. I will make a detailed post whenever I get some time. But it's $50 just for sealer alone, plus evaporust and whatever else you may need, and lots of labor. If BOOSTED60 has a clean tank, grabbit.
Related, just today somebody bought my 1960 air cleaner hoses off ebay. I figured they wouldn't last long.

I’m using Seths adapter.doug6423 wrote:Seth Emerson has a fix for the steering wheel. I had the same issue and his adapter worked great.Scott H wrote:Tried to install a new steering wheel. And yes. I bought it from Gary who built it and lives in Arizona.BOOSTED60 wrote:i remember seeing this car parked outside the fan belt toss a few years ago. i believe the owner was from Arizona. It looked really nice from the outside.

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
It looks to have been lowered but it has spring spacers? Did someone cut the coils way too short and have to lift it back up with spacers?
Look like a nice ride!

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
Yeah it’s got spacers on all four springs. I’ll have to replace them all.

Re: 1960 Monza Coupe
I got the steering wheel on today. Per recommendation from Seth Emerson. I drilled out the holes in the wheel two sizes. And machined off the center ridge from the adapter.
