Rear Axle Castle Nut

Post by eForce »

I just rebuilt the rear axle and the castle nut is stripped. No idea how it got that way but does anyone know the size and thread pitch/count of that nut/stud? It seems to be a VERY odd size. One would think it's 3/4" but it isn't. Could it be metric or british standard?

I believe the part you are looking for is listed on page 167 of the Clark's Corvair Parts online catalog...
(Or are you talking about a differential component?)

Oh I know. I just think the spindle also has damage and I cannot determine the size and thread count. I can machine the shaft but only if I know the size and get a nut to match. Chevy must have made their own thread size.

I got a 3/4" 20p castle nut and it is very close.
