MEMORIES! My future bride and I used to go to the drive in movies regularly in Newbury Park, California in 1971... in my 1962 Monza or my 1965 turbo Corsa coupe. Watching movies like The Summer of '42, Love Story, Play Misty for Me, Friends, The Andromeda Strain, or The Godfather that were new releases back then.

In 1983 we visited that same drive-in with our two pre-teen sons (born in 1976 and 1979) when we returned from an overseas assignment to Germany. It was their first visit to a drive-in theater. We described it to them in advance and they didn't believe us. The idea of sitting in the car, watching a movie through the windshield and listening to sound piped in via a speaker hanging on the side window (in a Corvair Corsa, of course) just didn't sound believable to our kids. They were sure we were joking! ::-): I believe the double feature that night was Superman III and Hercules (both forgettable).

I think they fell asleep during the second movie. :zzzz: So did I. Lou Ferrigno as Hercules just didn't keep me awake! But they were incredulous at their first drive-in movie experience! A part of Americana seldom experienced anymore!

...Especially when done correctly... in a Corvair!
