Finnish Corvair owner

Post by Frankken »

Hello everyone!
I just registered at this forum hoping to get some advices. I recently inherited my grandparents' old 1960 chevrolet Corvair and I'm planning to restore it to its original state. The car hasn't been used for 25 years but fortunately it's in fairly good shape considering the age of the car. The car has been very little used (20000 miles), the body has very little rust and the engine should run once it has been cleaned up.
I have a question about the fuel pump though. It was missing when I got the car but now I have found a replacement for it. This pump I got is not for a 1960 Corvair but can it still be used or do I have to find another solution?
I will post some pictures of the car later this week. Take care!

Best regards

Johan, welcome, congratulations and may I be the first to ask that you post pictures! I don't know much about '60 fuel pumps but what I was reading on Clark Corvair Parts website might be helpful.

i have a 60 and i believe the fuel pump is the same for all the years except 60, the only difference is the length of the push rod, if you use a later pump you must use its push rod.
In another note, have you considered joining the 1960 Caveman Corvair Facebook group and the CORSA special interest chapter "Caveman Corairs, the 1960 Group" chapt 3?

that was my point, you can use the later fuel pump by using the later push rod, that's how we have done it, most folks that purchase their fuel pump from clarks do that

Thank you everyone for your answers. I'm going to try out the pump I have and hopefully it will run with it!

jennirw: I didn't know that such a group existed but I would gladly join it! :goodpost:
