Beautiful car but I just saw this same one on another forum and it's not a 572.
On that site the owner says the engine is a 427 with valve covers from a 572. Putting 572 covers on a 427 is a bit like that red LM Vair we have all seen with the fake LS7 plastic engine cover hiding a stock 110 underneath. With more photos of the engine I might have known better from other visual clues but I still feel duped.

hmmm? I'll have to ask Darrin about that. Even still a 427 in a Vair is impressive. Wonder why he felt the need to switch the covers?
I dont like the fake cover on LoVair either.

572? 427?
I wouldn't complain about a 427 either. Further down in that other thread I found he says that the valve covers from the 572 are better at quieting the valve clatter than the stock 427 valve covers. Lower noise levels or not, it is still a bit of false advertising to see things like that at a car show.
Fake LS7 engine?
A plastic LS7 cover hiding a stock Corvair engine underneath is just plain wrong. I'm sure the guy who really does has a LS rear-engine Vair is not too happy to see a poser car like that either. Might as well hang a pretend Master's Degree on the wall and buy some VTEC stickers for your non-VTEC Honda too.
Anyway, I just sold my last Eclipse yesterday so the garage is now available to roll in my V8 for some cooling system upgrades. Hopefully I'll have a new thread for the V8 crowd to follow.

I asked Darrin's friend and yes it is an all cast iron 427.

A 427 is nothing to be ashamed of.
And as for the fake LS7. I really like the car, and with so much money into it I am surprised he doesn't just do the LS7 conversion.
And I'm glad to hear the V8 is gonna get some attention. I can't wait to see it.

..more pics/details of the radiator and lines would help me right now,,that's the placement I'm considering for the mid-4.3..do the pipes go down the interior-side of the toe-board,and thru the floor pan or above the floor, with a fake 'hump'??..what 'other forum',Dave,,CC?? -topic name??

Any topic with V8 mentioned catches my eye. Check several posts down and you will see the vehicle from this post mentioned along with a few different photos.

I didn't really want to reveal yet because I figured it will get laughed at but I brought home a Toro/V8 from New Mexico that has the radiator mounted behind the front seats. PO mentioned in the FS ad that it never overheated. Well I drove it this winter right after I towed it home to Phoenix with ambient temps at about 72F. After 6-7 miles at 60 MPH on the freeway it reached +230F and was still climbing. I have my ideas to make this work out but it's only applicable if you have a Toro conversion. If I have good initial success then I'll probably start my own thread revealing this fix and some of the other problems I'll be repairing.
When I lived in Indiana 25 years ago I owned one Crown V8 (327 Monza convertible) and one Kelmark V8 (350 69 Monza chopped and widened). Right now have two Toro conversions that are drivable but need work and one Kelmark 396 small block that is getting completely parted out and towed away this weekend.
I've been following your mid-4.3 conversion threads, always looking for ideas to "borrow".

Hey guys,
Lol that's my V-8 572/427 bbc vair. Yeah, the valve covers are misleading, bit they looked really cool and the were free at the time. Gm wanted 400 each for those things when they came out. I had an extra set from a boat engine I installed and the stock valve cover wouldn't fit his, so I got them. They help a lot with the valve train noise. I'm running solid roller lifters in it. They stamped steel ones where like running no valve covers at all.
They are removed for now and i got a set of plan aluminum ones for the fan belt toss this year.
Car has changed a bunch from 09 GWFBT. 09 it had 427 crown set-up mostly original stuff and baer front brakes. 2010 GWFBT Still had the 427 , I changed out all the running gear and rear suspension. Now has 4speed toploader (3+1) and a c5 corvette diff with all the suspension and rear brakes.
Still lots to do on the car. Hopefully by the Denver convention I'll have the 540 in it.

Hey buddy nice to see you here!
The car looked awesome (as usual) but it sounded friggin' MEAN! I like it!
Did you change the cam? I don't remember it sounding so radical at the 2009 toss?
I have a new pics of it here.

I realize this is not a Corvair and does not have anything remotely for a Corvair
EXCEPT MAYBE the ZF Transaxle.
The bidding is currently at $2,000.00 for the car which is reaching the value of the transaxle but thought I would share anyway.
I cut and pasted the first sentence from the ad:
Here is a very rare Bradley GTll car because it is powered by a DeTomaso Pantera drive train rather that a VW.

Same cam as last year I think.. Main deference is the headers really let the cam work now.
Lowered the car the other day about an inch all the way around and hung the mufflers. I might try to make the yucaipa car show this Friday if I get the mufflers connected. You going Scott?

I just put my headers on and I noticed my car idles a bit more rumbly now too. It certainly gets up and goes better now! However, I don't have the right gaskets for them. The stock ones are too small. So as of right now it's not really drivable. I want to go.
Well whatever you did it sounds really, really good!
Wow, you lowered it! I bet it looks great. How does it ride?
