64 corvair

got this 64 corvair 500 from my boss, paid 1500, runs and drives. im cleaning it up and then going to just drive and enjoy it. now for the pics

owners manual, accessories brochure, and an unused maintenance manual

83,000 miles on it

and i got a completely new exhaust, manifolds, y pipe and i used a borla muffler, and this cheap 90 degree bend to reduce noise and interior drones

thanks, i cant wait to actually drive it, ive only been able to cruise around my neighborhood (title problems :banghead: )

What a great find! You see so few of the 500's around, especially with a well preserved interior like that. I'm amazed at how well the paint is cleaning up.

One suggestion I would make is get yourself a proper battery hold-down ASAP. An unsecured battery will move around and if the positive terminal shorts out or arcs to any grounded metal it can start a fire. Clark's suggests for newer style batteries like yours that you use a 1960 style top piece (I think). I am using that in my '64 Monza and it works well.

already got a new batter in it, and a hold down in, that battery was temporary to just get it running

going to do alot of polishing today, also it needs new head gaskets, and putting in to trans pan gasket and filter

well this was the first time i drove a corvair so if there was lack of power, then i wasnt aware of it, after i replaced the whole exhaust system, it still sounded like a serious exhaust leak so my boss suggested it was a head gasket

engines out, parts painted, engine cleaned, rebuilt torque converter, added new exhaust tip

Not much left of the teeth on that TC. Looking good, bet it will run a LOT better soon.
