Just Purchased a 1964 Sedan with Trim #705 - Saddle Interior and Exterior Paint # 938 Desert Beige. I have only seen it through the owner supplied photos and information supplied. The owner is a 50/60 era car nut like most of us and he had started fixing the car up. The first owner purchased it new when he was about 52 yr old and had it until just last year he passed away. It is in very nice shape with original paint and interior, both need replacement to make it very good. It will be a week or two before I can make the 600 mile trip to pickup the car so I am working to get some of the necessary parts to improve the interior ordered

The PO purchased it from the estate. He then started work to get in good driving condition. He removed the carpet when a window was left open and floor got extremely wet. He said the carpet needed replacement anyway.

Now my problem is to replace the carpet and the dash, which has many cracks. Dash will be no problem as it is still there and should be easy to match it's color but with the carpet missing I need a color code or color name to order it from Clark's. Does the carpet match the darker Dash or the lighter Seats?



Also was there a two tone interior in this era using the "Saddle" color and a lighter color like "Fawn" on the seats and door panels? I think this would liven up the interior.

Do any of you have photos the original Saddle and also a two tone version. It would be interesting to see them both to be able to make a choice. The rest of the car will be kept stock.

I'm afraid that info is going to be very hard to come by. It's very likely that the exact color combo's even varied from one factory to another.

What I'd do is order samples of all the carpets you think might do (from Clarks). Also order the tan/brownish upholstery samples while you are at it.

As far as the two-tone I can't find the list but I don't think there was a two tone like the one you are suggesting, however there were at least two different colors in the interior. The two tone interiors AFAIK were all sharp contrasts, where single color interiors had more subtle contrasts. I did find that in 64 there were two different "fawn" interior paint colors, probably used in different places as well as a higher and lower gloss version of one of the fawn colors. There were also "saddle" shades and "goldish tan" ones.... basically there are a whole lot of possibilities!

64 is considered by many to have been the best year for fit and finish and choices of colors for Corvair interiors.

thanks for the reply, I guess I will order samples and try to "Choose Wisely", I am going to keep the interior paint stock and just replace the seat covers and door panels in the lighter color. There is some of the carpet left under the seats so a match will be easy there. Since we got 2 feet of snow yesterday and due 4 inches more today I will not be working on the Vairs for awhile. Just shoveling Most daily snow I have seen here in 25 years.... And it's heading your way....

We have not seen that in over 6 weeks, 17 today and we are to get down to -20 area tonight... Heck when it gets to 0 anything below that is not noticeable....

Well we are one day closer to spring....

Well I may just go up north to get my '64 Sedan this weekend, I am too tired to shovel out my Coupe to work on it..

I have the exact same car in a monza coupe. Exact same dash and seat upholtery trim. I have just repainted the entire car the origianl color the desert biege. The privious owner matched the brown on the dash with a brown colored carpet. I'm looking to replace my carpeting and think a copper/gold which would match the metal on the doors might be better. I have to order that dash and think the color that Clark's sells is very close.

I have not picked up the car as yet, it is a 600 mile trip to get it and will do that in another week.

Do you have any pictures of yours since repaint? It's paint is original and has not been buffed and waxed for years and I am interested in how it will look once repainted in original color. the photos he sent make it look like a slightly off white. For now it will get a good buffing and wax for the work needed on my Spyder convert comes first.

Got the Sedan home last night - in the middle of a snow storm - the car's paint looks good from across the street but closer you can see that the lack of waxing and polish shows as well as a lot of scratches . At this point I would like to see some photos of the Desert Beige on a EM and the Saddle Interior in good or new condition, that is to see if I am going to keep the stock colors or go with another combination.

The interior shows the 47 years and will need full replacement. Also the paint has to be redone...

But the body is great and engine runs like a clock...

Thanks for the photo, it looks very nice and I will probably stay with the original colors throughout. Is your dash darker than the rest of the interior, that is the way mine is. Does the carpet match the dash or the seats, my carpet was removed by the PO and was thrown away. If i go with stock look this will be nice to know.

My interior color is exactly like yours. I have included a picture before I installed the seat covers. the person who owned the car before I did must have changed the carpeting because it's fairly new. The carpeting is dark brown. So is the dash. I need to buy a new dash. Since my interior is covered with sheepskin seat covers. I think I would like to match the overall interior color with the carpeting. Here is a picture

Thanks for the photo, it is a big help. I will order the brown carpets to match the dash. When new it looked pretty good. I will stay with the original color setup.

Am painting the steering wheel on the vair I have. The steering wheel is two tone. Do you know the exact two colors of the steering wheel. I think they are dark saddle and Medium saddle but the swatches listed on the internet are hard to distinguish.

Once the sun gets up I will take a close look at it and if possible get some close photos that get the color better. The main color looks just like the brown on the column.

Just went out to look at it, the other color looks like the lighter saddle color that is used on the doors. But with a silvery look..
The column is the darker chocolate brown, like the padded dash.

Once it warms up ( -15 f. now ) I can get some photos of the wheel.
