65 Monza. Sat for 24 years
65 Monza. Sat for 24 years
I sold my last Covair and all related Covair related tools and stuff many many years ago.
Then, last year, I once again got the Corvair itch.
I drove from Chattanooga TN to Normal IL (with my empty trailer), and I purchase this 65 Monza Convertible.
Had been sitting inside garage for 24 years.
I’ve been slowly going through the stages of getting it running to see, hear and smell the condition of this vehicle.

Interesting looking project. While I've never been a fan of making holes in vehicles, the gauges show that the P.O. cared about the performance. I'll be watching.

Looks like a nice car and a worthy project.
What's the thing under the dash on the left? It looks like a handle of some sort.
24 years. Have you taken the sender out of the gas tank for a look inside? Starting up in back by the engine compartment I like to spray carb or brake cleaner in the chassis fuel line and then blow some air to see what comes out down by the gas tank.
Did you see if there was brake fluid in the master cylinder before you went near the pedal?
What engine do you have in there? Looks like trombone exhaust maybe?
What color is it? Silver?

Good eye Ken. I missed that (although I didn't zoom in). It has a back seat so there isn't a V-8 hiding in there.

It looks like Glacier Gray for the color?

Jim - I think that item on the left is a speaker for the stereo- There is one matching on the right side. Interesting "time capsule". There is a little switch to the right of that speaker. I don't know what that is, maybe a wiper delay?

Noticed rust build-up in right door jamb.

Looking at the carbs and cross shaft in the back seat floor I would say that it has a 140hp in it.

IF memory serves me correctly, with a Toronado conversion, the back seat can remain functional BUT....looking at the tail pipes, I would tend to agree that there is not a V8 back there and the Water Gage does indicate a sense of humor on someone's part.

My gas tank question was answered in the other thread where he's having the wrestling match.

The Toronado conversions that I have seen, the air cleaner wing nut was right at the base of the rear window. I don't think that the back seat would still fit.

Kevireno posted a photo of his 140 in another thread. I took the Water gauge as a poke of fun.
