Price lowered! Complete 140 engine for sale

I've got a complete 140 engine I bought off Ebay from Starr Cooke about 4 years a go. He claimed it was rebuilt. But upon inspection, it has signs that I was duped. It has EM sheet metal and race carbs on it. Also, the distributor cap has been cracked when i was moving it. Other than that, I have not started it. But it does turn. I was hoping to get back what I paid for it. Let me know any questions you have. The engine is in Canal Fulton OH right now.

That is an honest ad, good for you.

Some folks thought Starr Cooke was a Corvair genius, but over the years I heard from others that complained about his work. I would not recommend him to folks. Last I heard he passed away.

If all else fails find someone who can dismantle and inspect the engine, it may be better than you expect. If the pistons and cam are new, and the heads have deep seats then it is worth some money.

I have to say, if those photos show the condition as you received it, that is not a rebuilt engine. It should also have a harmonic balancer, not a solid pulley.

Four years ago? Did you question the condition at that time?

Were there ebay photos provided?

Every salesman has their pitch line, "I'd use these in my race engine."

Yes

I contacted him several times. But that was right around covid. He would not message, me back

The pictures weren't very detailed. Only a shot of the top.

He had a good rating on Ebay at the time

I would just like to rid myself of it. I don't really need it now and I don't want to sink any more money into that if I don't need too

When I once posted that I'd heard about problems with Starr Cooke's work, ERCO got all uspset and flamed me for criticizing Cooke who he claimed was the greatest.

Maybe Cooke bought his drinks at the bar?

Probably, then again I know of another "Corvair expert" in my area that folks thought was the greatest, then I helped a few club members fix a some half ar$$$ed things the "expert" did. I finally figured out the folks who thought he was the greatest didn't have much in the way of mechanical skills and the "expert" was a real B.S.er and very charming. One of the expert's buddies, who can't get batteries into a flashlight, still tells folks "I know of a great Corvair mechanic".

A shame as it hurts the old car hobby.
