RR Block Listed on e-bay at the moment.

Post by caraholic4life »

I browse e-bay most days to see what might show up that is of interest related to Corvair's and other vehicles I have owned.

Today, I saw a RR Block with an "Asking Price" of a mere $3,500.00 and Local Pick Up only from Mocksville, North Carolina 27028. eBay item number:256468825708 (Edit: I just realized the asking price was $3,350.00 not $3,500.00 OOPS)

The last one of these I saw sell on e-bay was a few years ago and it went for $1,000.00 and was purchased by someone I know. This is not the same block.

The Seller's Description s as follows:

This is the super rare one year only 1966 Corvair Corsa Engine Block from a Corsa Coupe that had factory Air Conditioning. I removed it back in the 70's from a coupe . It would need to be cleaned up a little bit more ( case ) but is all there.

I have had it in storage for many years and now willing to part with it. This is a Local Pickup ONLY !

I will accept best offers if given, but before you do please contact me as I may have sold it locally and would have to return your offer ! For particulars: 33 six 8 1 six 1 nine 6 6 this is needed to go forward with details.

Listed as 1966 CORVAIR ENGINE BLOCK CORSA W/AIR CONDITIONING, RARE !!
Seller cabriolet32 (1159) 100% positive

Note: Edited to acknowledge error I made regarding asking price....My apologies for any confusion.

The last one I saw sold on Ebay went for $2200.oo
I then offered mine up on CCF for $2000.oo
Sold it a couple weeks after.
$3500.oo???
Truly one of the few really "Rare" items in the Corvair world. (Only a few A/C Corsa were produced.)
If someone needs it, they will pay, but there just isn't much demand for an RR block.
This could sell tomorrow, or,. . . . . . . . . . the seller could be sitting on this for quite a while.

With the inflation I've seen since then that is probably about right.

A FAIR price is one the buyer and seller agree on.

As the saying goes -- "It never hurts to ask". Let me know what it sells for.

Nobody likes inflation, except when they sell their house!!!

I lived through 1979 when inflation was OVER 13%. My mortgage was 15% :woo: Of course I was getting 20% raises !!!!! In five years inflation dropped and I refinanced the mortgage to 9% and my payment was only 2/3 of what rents were then. So sometimes inflation works out.

I have an un stamped assembly line late model block (not the over the counter with the extra holes). I have thought about throwing it out there for sale. You can make it whatever date RR block you need or a 66 RB Yenko dated block.

The one that sold for $2200 a few years ago was not very nice either.

I just can't picture myself lifting the lid to show someone my crankcase suffix.
I'm more the type to pick a 95 PG crankcase for a race engine because it probably had an easy life.
To each his own I guess. I should be happy whenever Corvair stuff is valuable.

We tried to do what TYD is suggesting...stamp font must be GM only.

I have 5 or 6 stamp sets...one of them is close but not quite the same.

Which one of you Corvair parts hoarders has the correct font stamps??

Jim, I agree with you! I know numbers-matching and concours peeps like those numbers, and that's okay too!

I had a RR engine case listed on ebay as an auction with a low reserve that covered what I paid for it and then some. I was shocked when it sold for $2200 but clearly, two people were intently chasing it. The winning bidder told me it was the exact date range he had searched for for over 20 years and would have bid more to get it.

A few other things with this block.

In the last photo you can see a duplicate mage of a couple letters. ( T I I ) slightly above and to the right.

The top of the case appears freshly machined

The date of 11 15 is not a known date for an RR block

The R's look suspect.

just my opinion on this

TYD is right...the eBay R's are different than GM stamp R's.

Pretty sure GM had a stamp jig or fixture that fit on the case.

Making every stamping the same location and perfect straight.

Snips from eBay ad and snip from a known RB 140 case of mine.

Plus...seller uses the word rare way too many times...scammer!

When I first looked at it, it seemed the top surface had been re-machined..... I didn't say anything because I was not sure if someone on here was selling, but with the stamping and such, I am now VERY suspect.

It is interesting that it was removed in the 70's and stripped down to the bare block. I would have thought like a complete engine put in storage. In the 70's did anyone know that these would be rare 50 years later to just save the bare block?

You folks have sharp eyesight. I've NEVER seen the block numbers crooked on a Corvair engine. The spacing is off too. Definitely suspect.

I've seen this sort of fakery with other GM blocks and I suppose someone saw the high prices of the Corvair RR block sale and decided to try and make some money. Those folks eventually get what they deserve.
