Found: Cylinder Jug for a 1960 bored for 60 at 3.37

Looking for a Cylinder Jug for 1960, not just a "full-finned" jug that looks like a 1960, but an actual cylinder jug for a 1960 that is still bored at 3.37 instead of the 61 and later size of 3.44. Thought I had a few options lined up but ended up all being 3.44. These for some reason seem super hard to find (at least for me). Most likely because full-finned jugs were overbored at one point for later models. I've had one jug go bad due to a blown head gasket and have no intention of replacing all the pistons and jugs. I do have one piston that is for one of the 3.44 bored jugs I have, but it weighs 1.1 ounces more than a 3.37 piston. In any case, need to find a properly bored jug soon to get this engine back together, and running. Will take (and pay for) the piston as well. Thanks

Can you cut the top and use extra base gaskets to make up the difference?

I don't think so it's pretty gnarly.

but if looking at the image above you think there's something I can do, I'll give it a try.

I'll have to agree with you on that one. Wow!
I'm sure someone here will have one.

Just happy all the damage happened to the jug and not the head. Head cleaned up nice, jug.. not so much.

I think I've got 10 but I can't go after them for a week or two. Hopefully someone else comes up with one.

Yeah that was a failed head gasket. A fellow in the club had a car that would "chirp" when the throttle was opened on the road. Kind of a metallic rubbing noise. Nobody could figure out what was causing it. Then one experienced fellow said "That is a leaking head gasket. Pulled the engine tin and you could see the carbon marks at the cylinder and head from the leak.

I have an answer for those that may have been wondering why the different size cylinders and being full finned. As I found out being full finned does not automatically mean a 1960 140 cu in engine!

So the first picture is a true 1960 cylinder, notice that it has extra lugs at the top of the cylinder?

Image

And then what everyone seems to think is a 1960 cylinder but is not, including me! While full finned it is not for a 1960 140 cu in engine. Notice the LACK of the extra lugs at the top of the cylinder?

The pictures are actually from Jeremiah as he had sent me some decent pictures of what he has and wants.

Is the 2nd picture a Clark's cylinder?

Maybe an older one? I haven't been around long enough to know if their design changed, but it doesn't look like their current offering, but also looks different then my 60 as Ken already pointed out (Thanks Ken). So I'm wondering where they came from as well, I now have a few. They'd work well for a 61 or later and this one in the picture is cleaned up nice. Hoping I can get mine to look like this.

No, that is a cylinder that I sent to Jeremiah. NOT a Clark's cylinder.

I wasn't going to say where I got it.. but you did do a great job, it does almost look new. I think the question is (at least mine is) the Cylinder you sent looks different than my 1960 Cylinder, was it actually a Cylinder from 1960 or was it a cylinder from Clarks at one point.. was the manufacturing process different in each plant, so maybe this was a 1960 but not from Oakland like mine or did they have full-finned cylinders that were different in 61 or something. Maybe my Cylinder is the oddball here and not really a true 1960 (though it is bored correct)? You did a great job cleaning it up though. I'm just wondering about its history, which no one may know.

Looks like vairmech has sent me another Cylinder was nice enough to send a picture with a caliper of the size and it looks correct. So I am going to mark this as found and I think finally I may be getting something that will work! Thank you so much! It's been a bit of a journey.. I started out calling Corvair Ranch and believe it or not they had none, so I should have known this might be tricky.
