Brine on the roads

Post by joelsplace »

Why? It has been 70 degrees Wednesday and Thursday here in Texas and they have covered all the highways in DFW.
How can we get the tree huggers to stop them?
Other ideas?

Why are you complaining about the "tree huggers" since they have been trying to ban salt brine on the roads for years. Blame you local government that uses salt because it is CHEAP compared to alternatives.

There is a cold wave headed your way. In Colorado there is a 50 degree drop were the front is passing through!!

Sorry, but I've seen Texans drive in the snow and ice. It is as bad as watching Californians drive on ice an snow!! I learned to drive on worn out tires in the Mid-West during blizzards. It's a skill you don't learn in Drivers Ed.

That wasn't a complaint it was a question on how to use them to stop this.
Texas was just fine using sand until a few years ago.

Many states now only use sand or gravel after the "environmentalists" proved all that salt run off was not good for the soil and water table. However that is mostly rural areas or places near wetlands. In urban areas salt is still used mainly because it is effective and less expensive compared to alternatives.

At one time Michigan had some of the biggest salt mines anywhere! In the 60's you were lucky if a car driven in Detroit during Winters lasted four years before the floors were gone and the fenders were flapping in the wind!!
