1st post, 1968 Corvair
I've used this and Corvair Center a lot since getting my Corvair so I thought it time to introduce myself and the car. I'm in Pearland, TX and inherited my stepfather's Corvair in the Spring of '22.
Some details on my stepdad's nearly finished build:
1968 Corvair Monza convertible (Corsa dash)
TRW forged pistons, Iski cam (280 deg, 450 lift), original turbo, Roch 2CG, Snow meth injection, XR700 eletronic ignition
I sometimes post on Instagram my ([very] slow) progress. Give me a follow if you are on there!
Oh, also, I named her Lucky 21 because I've had some bad luck with her but if I didn't have bad luck then I wouldn't have no luck at all.

Thanks! I've been working in that general direction! Only burnt the wires 3 times so far! I'll get there somehow
Re: 1st post, 1968 Corvair
Not many 68 convertible made. Only came to about 5% of the convertibles built in 65.
Some interesting upgrades. Enjoy.

Cool! I didn't know that. I really have come to appreciate all the unique Corvair powered vehicles and innovations Chevy made in that historic decade.

About that Isky 280 cam. That is a hot cam, maybe a bit too much for a driveable turbo. Keep in mind many have reported the stock valve springs don't compress enough for an Isky 280 cam and this can cause valve train wear and/or broken rockers. Isky does make hi performance valve springs for the big cams.
As far as burning up wires, the 68 wiring was revised compared to the 65 and 66 models. When checking wiring diagrams you need the one for the 68 model year.
Some clubs have an "electrical" person that might help. If you are close to a club, then check them out.

Thank very much, vairguy. I have very little knowledge on performance engines so your advice is greatly appreciated. I will definitely check the valves before driving it too much and it'll hopefully be obvious if they are stock or iski springs. For the wiring,
Ive looked the '68 supplement but was still confused. I'll take another look before starting a new thread asking for help.

Welcome and good luck with the car. They are a blast to drive when you get it going.

Most are confused by wiring and the shop manual diagrams was GM's attempt to make a diagram for mechanics, not electrical folks, and take a lot of patience to read. The MAIN problem the connectors drawings are not numbered or keyed! You'll see two connectors that plug together. They are a MIRROR image that is the wire on the top right hand spot corresponds to the opposing connector wire ON THE TOP LEFT HAND SPOT! Once you get that down it's easier to trace wires.dcmarciano wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:01 pm Thank very much, vairguy. The number at the black line (wire) is gauge and insulation color. 20 G is 20 gauge GREEN wire. The larger the gauge number the smaller the wire diameter.
I get a lot of free lunches helping club members out with wiring. See if you can find someone with wiring experience to help. Good luck.
