Posting some updates on my 1967 Monza Convertible 4 speed.

-Car on jack stands

-Wheels are off

-Front drums are off, rear breaks and axle are stuck

-Seat out

-Glove box open

-Windows down

Still looking for some roller tires or wheels so we can get it off the trailer and pull the drive train.

On the rear brakes, obviously make sure the transmission is in neutral. One trick I’ve used is gently take a 10-12 lb sledgehammer and hit the wheel/drum while trying to turn it. The sledge can knock the rust loose and sometimes get the wheel free. Try also using a bar or a pipe across the wheel studs as a lever (with the lug nuts on to protect the threads). A lot of turning force while whacking the wheel or drum with the sledge.

That floor is definitely rusted out. Wow! Reminds me of mine when I started.

I recall from your intro post that the door pillar was also in bad shape, and that you’re also in Mississippi.

Have you decided on your plans for the project yet? What’s the end goal keeping it realistic and achievable? :dontknow:

I have a lot of time to work on the Corvair this week so I thought I'd post some updates.

-Skimmed through Clark's

-Took off a good bit of trim

-Finally tried turning the crankshaft bolt, engine is truly stuck

-Disassembled the dashboard

-Whoever last assembled this car went ham with an impact wrench

-They also stripped half of the screws

-Still trying to get the rear drums off

-Still need to find roller tires

I've decided to take on the daunting task of restoring the body along with the drivetrain. This is due to it's low milage (37,610) and the fact that I've already grown too attached to the car. However, I will try to restore the drivetrain first. In the near certainty that I don't have it drivable by the time I get my license, I always have my 06' Ranger. Thank you and have a good day.
