back-up light switch

Post by piddler »

I replaced the back-up light switch soon after I bought the car. (65 Corsa) I had to remove the drive train to replace the throw out bearing and pilot bushing and now the back-up lights stay on all of the time. I installed a new seal when putting everything back together. I think I remember reading that if the seal is too tight the switch doesn't work properly. Is there anything to this?

Thanks, Pete

Maybe if the contacts got exposed, pinched and shorted together by a tight boot. It's a simple on/off switch, should be a simple matter to test with a multimeter. But cripes, at $60-70 for a new switch, they should work properly out of the box.
