Decoding my body tag date code.

Post by 34nineteen »

I think I have my body tag figured it out aside from the date code. I've read other posts and they refer to the 3 digit date code as being mentioned "later on" but I can't seem to find the reference. " An exception to the 2 digit- one letter code is a 3 digit number code used on 1965 Los Angeles models built in Mid-September 1964. This is discussed later at the end of the Decoding section."

Here is what I think I have:
tag.JPG
918 = date code- not sure what date this is aside from "mid-Sept 1964"

65-10537 = 1965 Monza coupe
LOS (covered by wire) = Los Angeles plant
?1171 = body number

TR 713 - black intererior
N-N = maroon paint top/bottom

(1) W - tinted glass (windshield)
2 L S - 4 speed / rear antenna ( I dont have a hole in the RH rear fender and cant find a patch)
3 C - padded dash
4 U - spare tire lock (I dont even have a spare, so yeah...) LOL

Here is a breakdown of the information on the body tag you provided...

ACC = Accessory line
When decoding ACC line on the Fisher body tags, be aware that body tags do not include any options that did not require any body modification be done by Fisher. Fisher was only concerned with items that required modifications during the assembly of the body. A good example is that you won’t find Telescopic column listed on the body tag. Although this is a major option, it did not require any special consideration during body assembly.

Pretty sure I nailed most of the decoding aside from the date code of "918".

On one of postings about body tag decoding is this:

" An exception to the 2 digit- one letter code is a 3 digit number code used on 1965 Los Angeles models built in Mid-September 1964. This is discussed later at the end of the Decoding section."

viewtopic.php?t=4321

Its referenced on other posts as well, and looks like it may have originated on the other Corvair forum. I looked to see if I could find the original posting, but it may have just been intended to discuss, but missed.

I just couldnt find the "end of the decoding section". Maybe it means 9/18/1964?

Its not that important, but I was just curious if someone had a quick and easy answer.

The gold Monza badge is a nice touch. I'm not a fan of gold trim, but I do like that. I'm assuming it was done aftermarket?
