64 front emergency brake cable replacement

I have been working on brakes on a 64 convertible. I have repalced the master cylinder, brake lines, wheel cylinders and now working on the emergency brake. The front cable was broke. I have bought a replacement but it did not come with any nuts or return spring.
Reading the assembly manual i see there are two nuts that go on the cable bolt. My question is how is the return spring attached and how do i make the proper adjustment on the cable.
