Corvair Convertible Question 1965

Post by manofsteel »

Hi all, just bought my first 1965 Monza convertible and have a few questions. Is therea way that the backof rear seat folds down like the Coupe. If so, how. And how do I remove it to do some work in the top well? Next, could some one send a picture of the back quarter window on the drivers side. Does it have chrome trim on the verticle of glass? Thanks

The back seat does not fold down. The seat back is removed by removing the seat base which snaps down into place at 2 large tabs under the front of the base. Push back by the tabs and pull up on the seat base to release it and then pull it out of the car. Once the base is out the seat back can be removed. There are a couple sheet metal fingers under the seat back that go through some slotted brackets that are part of the seat back. These tabs may be bent over so pulling the back up off them might be difficult. Bend them so the brackets can slide off of them. Next there are 2 screws at the top rear of the seat back one on each side near the outer corners. Stock they have 1" diameter washers under them. Remove these 2 screws. Once they are removed slide the seat back straight up as there are 2 hooks in the body behind the seat back that the seat back slides down onto during install. seat back is now out.

Yes the 1/4 panel windows have a chrome molding on the front of the glass that hold the door to 1/4 window rubber weatherstrips.

Congrats on your 65 convertible purchase. I bought one last June and they are fun to drive. You will find people on this forum that can help you with any questions you might have.

Quarter window trim?

While the 1/4 glass is different between coupes and convertibles, the vertical leading edge chrome trim and rubber seal are the same for all 65-69 cars (except 4-doors of course).

Clarks C2586 for a nice repro set of the chromed trim or Ebay of course.
