Windshield Washer Pump, LM

Post by larry202br »

I'm trying to replace the Windshield washer pump on my '66. The pump listed at Clark's, Amazon, Ebay, etc., is an Anco 6102. This pump is wider, and longer than my existing pump, but all the sources say it is correct for my car. Has anyone successfully installed the Anco pump? And was any modification necessary?

If all the sources said their offering was correct and it didn't match what I had........I'd conclude what is on my car now had been replaced at some point with a non correct piece. Does what you have match what's shown in the service manual?

A photo of your existing pump would be helpful in identifying what you have.

Clark's sez: "Slightly different from the original but fits and works". I can't see how. I'll post a picture as soon as I can. I don't have access to my phone right now.

Wagon, Good point. I don't have handy an early manual, or a 1966 manual. From what I can tell, the unit Clark's sells matches the photo in the 1965 manual.

Here is what I could find on this ANCO 61-02 replacement pump, including price comparisons using Summit Racing, Amazon.com, and Clark's Corvair Parts as sources. It appears to be a pump uses extensively in GM products, and is widely available.

it is possible someone has installed an early 62 wiper motor on your 66. The 63 on pump will not work on the 62 motor. I have never had an issue installing this pump on a late model.

It's possible. I will post some pics when I get home. Maybe someone will recognize the smaller unit.
Thanks for your replies.

These 2 do not look compatible. Post a pic of the wiper motor and washer pump drive gear with the washer pump off please.

That looks like the later (post 62) motor. Order the replacement from Clark's and send back the incomplete, incorrect one you got is my take. I think perhaps they sent you the wrong part.

I have no problem with the motors. I haven't purchased any parts from Clark's for this issue. Both motors are stock, and the same in the '66 as the '65.
My problem is that the pump in the '66 doesn't work, and it's the smaller unit pictured above, and all the replacements I can find show the larger unit. The larger unit I show in the picture is from my stash, it was part of a big box of parts that with the Rampy when I bought it.

I don't see how the larger unit would fit where the smaller unit was, but I'll admit I haven't tried. For sure, the mounting holes don't line up.

I replaced the valve unit on the original pump, and it still didn't work. So, I'd like to purchase the smaller pump, but can't find one anywhere. I did find some bellows on Ebay and one for a Corvette on Amazon. I may try going that route.

I was talking about getting a different washer pump replacement not the wiper motor. I have used the replacements from Clark’s with no issues except getting the original gear off to install the one that comes with the new pump can be annoying sometimes

I have a replacement pump. I don't have the gear, or the standoff, I can make a standoff, and hope the original gear will work.

Hmmm after looking at the photos of the pump Clark's sells and thinking about it for a minute (I think it is the same replacement unit you have), it seems to me(from memory) that the new unit mounts with one of the external existing mounting holes and mounts through another hole under the plastic cover with the long screw with standoff under the hole in the steel part of the pump unit to keep it from collapsing when tightening the screw. I doubt it will work properly with the stock drive gear however.

I wonder if it wouldn't be a wise move to abandon the original "piggyback pump" in favor of a straight forward impeller pump design. A simple installation near the windshield wiper would likely work better than the original.

The little pump that could!

When I ordered this pump I didn’t pay attention to the dimensions but I assumed that it would be approximately the size of a Coke can. When it arrived I was really surprised because it is actually the size of a shot glass. I started getting worried that it wouldn’t work very well on my 85 K5 Blazer and that I would need to return it. But I thought I would install it and see how it went. Man, this is the little pump that could! It easily pumps fluid approximately 8 feet and blasts my windshield. If you need a new pump this is definitely the one I recommend!
