Hi Everyone

New to this group. Here is my 64 Monza Coupe that I drove back from Sacramento last Saturday. Really pleased that it made the 400+ mile journey despite encountering some carb issue. Looking forward to meeting some of you and learning how to maintain this baby.

Love the lines of this coupe, especially the 3/4 view from the rear. So glad I found this one very well preserved original, albeit with a fresh respray.

On a side note, I just became the proud owner of a 1964 Corvair Monza 900 Coupe. Drove it 400+ miles from Sacramento to Orange County. That's what I call a confidence boosting trip

The link below will provide you with a list of useful websites that are Corvair-related. Some of the links will lead you to an extensive technical library that will allow you to download shop manuals and other technical references in Adobe Reader format at no cost. There is also a link that will help you to locate nearby CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapters. While the Corvair Forum can be very helpful as you work on your Corvair, having local friends and contacts in your region who are knowledgeable about the Corvair can also be very helpful. These family-friendly CORSA club chapters often offer picnics, group scenic drives, technical training and assistance, car shows, and competition events that can greatly enhance your enjoyment of Corvair ownership. You will also find a list of essential Corvair parts suppliers.

:dontknow: I would like to encourage you to expand on your earlier post and tell us more about yourself, as well as about your Corvair. Your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities helps a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful in assisting other Corvair owners with technical support and advice, but it helps a lot if we have some understanding of your technical background and mechanical abilities, your Corvair-related knowledge, etc. Helping us to know more about you will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience. Some detailed photographs of your Corvairs, including the engine compartment, interior, etc. would be great!

Lol! Don't climbing the Grapevine count?

On a more serious note I am always concerned with any classic I acquire being reliable enough to drive long distance. So this journey answered my question. Not sure if anyone have similar concerns.

You are right. Your first long drive with your aging, largely unknown to you Corvair is best traveled on a well-populated, well-traveled road with a cell phone, AAA card and help readily available. Tools, a shop manual, and some common spare parts in the trunk is also helpful, and a printed listing of CORSA club chapters throughout the state may also bring help. While PCH is beautiful and interesting, there are narrow, winding sections that I would not want to break down on!

For a story about the kind of help that CORSA club chapter members can bring, read the following thread for a tale of breakdown and help...

Anyone in Asheville NC that could lend a hand?

My impression was always that I-5 was fast, but boring. 101 was a compromise, but more attractive, and if you were not in a hurry, on a motorcycle, etc., PCH is the best!

I'm in,
This is my 61 Monza club coupe. The car has been rotisserie restored and upgraded for driveability.
Exterior is Goldwood yellow/interior is black.
The upgrade of note is the 170ci Spyder motor. Love this car and look forward to being a part of the forum.
Thanks,
Norm

That seems like a fine way to get rid of the manual choke on a '61! ::-): And I really like the Ansen Sprint-type wheels on the EM. I had 'em on my '65 Corsa convertible since the early 1970's (7x14 rims with Goodyear Polyglas RWL E-70x14 tires originally). The sporty enhancements on your '61 look great.

That Corsa looks sweet.I really like the GT mirrors. I have a set to install as well.On a side note, the top on your car fits really well. Seems that the black tops always fit better than the white.

In that photo, taken behind our Hanscom AFB, MA base housing, the Corvair had just been painted and a new top installed in the Spring of 1980. A few months later I was transferred to southwest Germany, near Ramstein Air Base. I shipped the Corvair from Bayonne, NJ to the port in Bremerhaven, Germany. We really enjoyed "cruising" on the Autobahn at speeds around 90-100 mph with the top down. That car received a lot of attention from the Germans, too.

WOW, the mirrors are awesome. I would love those, but a bit rich for my blood. I love the NOS aftermarket parts. My lucas flamethrowers and backup lights are NOS parts as well. The mirrors I have are similar to the Talbots. I found them in the Mooneyes catalog serveral years ago. just need my buddy to come over to help install them. The placement is critical to insure proper adjustment. Im a bit nervous about drilling the holes for mounting.

For your consideration is my '66 Monza 110. Car is all original with 20,000 miles. Since owning I have rebuilt the distributor, brake cylinders (still using the factory installed shoes), carburetors, and Powerglide. In 2017 I replaced the bushings, shocks, and brake lines. It drives like a 3 year old car.[img]
