Corvair Forum

The gas tank on my car was replaced before I bought it. It seems to me there should be some sort of seal where the filler neck goes through the left front wheel well. I asked the nice girl at Clarks and looked through the catalog. So far, no one knows what I am talking about.

Was there ever anything to plug this hole?

The illustrations below and the attached 1965 Corvair Assembly Manual - FUEL TANK should answer your questions. I have also attached the section of the 1961 Corvair Shop Manual and the 1964 Supplement that cover the fuel tank (toward the back of each section). It looks like the only body seal is at the top of the filler tube, below the gas cap (Item 2 in the illustration, Item 12 in the Clark's Catalog page).
