New member with '64 Monza. And a little help.

Post by gastephens »

Greetings. My first car was a '67 Monza 110 auto and I've always had some nostalgia for it. Many years later (and recently) this barn-find '64 Monza 95 4spd followed me home.

My '67 was in great shape so I just maintained it. The '64 is being reconditioned so I am learning how they come apart (and hopefully how to put it back together). Fortunately it is basically rust-free and seems to have all original parts so I'm not having to guess too much. I do have a question. What is this crunchy crispy ring around the exhaust manifold? It does not appear to be a gasket between any two surfaces but it used to be something.

I believe that you are looking at what's left of a manifold collar. Here's the Clark's part: http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/search.cgi?part=c2418

You can find the description here: http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/catalog ... nd_page=33

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I am gathering up this week's Clark's order so I'll add those to it.

I see you are in Dahlonega. I live in Cumming so we're practically neighbors. I hope to see your beautiful car one of these days. That is just about the perfect combination of everything on my wish list!
