Hi All,

My name is Josh and I am a garage gearhead. I have had many classics (and some junkers). Today, I scored a 64 Convertible for an unreal price. Anyway, not only is this my first Corvair, it is my first air cooled ride. I am looking forward to cruising in iton sunny days and wrenching on it on rainy days. Looking forward to sharing stories and tips with the rest of you.

Corvair Forum :link: viewtopic.php?f=225&t=6007

:dontknow: I would like to encourage you to expand on your initial post and tell us more about yourself, your Corvair, and your goals for your Corvair. If you can describe your personal assessment of your mechanical skills and abilities, that would help a lot. Members of the Corvair Forum love to be helpful in assisting other Corvair owners with technical support and advice, but it helps a lot if we have some understanding of your technical background and mechanical abilities, Corvair-related knowledge, etc. Helping us to know more about you and your Corvair will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience. Pictures are great too, because pictures of your Corvair will help us to visualize where you are with your Corvair and its condition at the present time. Knowing your location is also useful, because knowing where you live can sometimes suggest possibilities to resolve some issues or problems.

:welcome:

The closest CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapter I can point to for you has their monthly meetings about 31 miles south of your location in San Leandro, California. These family-friendly clubs often offer car shows, picnics, competition events, Corvair-based scenic drives, technical training, assistance with Corvair repair and maintenance, and other social events that make Corvair ownership more enjoyable...

A couple of shops in your area. This one had no negative reviews. See http://www.yelp.com/biz/corvair-unlimited-san-francisco

Corvairs are different, but not difficult to work on once you learn how. A club sometimes is an invaluable source of help and information, depends on the club. If you ever drive down to L.A. check in with the guys at South Coast Corsa. A number of gear heads and the only transaxle repair guy in S. Calif. , Dan Drommerhausen, is in the club.

Good luck and the 64 is one of the nicest of the first generation Corvairs.

Jeff Field at Transaxle Engineering (Chatsworth, CA) has done all manner of transaxles for over 30 years. He still has the '63 Spyder I traded him decades ago.
