what hoses for S-10 calipers?

Post by scooperman »

Corvair newbie here. I tried the search but "S-10" and "S10" do not work, also "caliper" takes me nowhere. For dropped S-10 spindles on a 66, what hoses do I buy, stock S-10 hoses? thank you for any help.

I don't know either, but to play it safe, I would use S10 hoses, and try to find an adapter to the corvair brake line.

Try Seth Emerson' David Clemens or Michael LeVeque for the right 'hoses'..I "used to do S-10's", but many companies use their 'metric' caliper including Speedway so it depends on if you're using them on the front or rear, or have them re-machined for 'pipe thread' inlets..

Good info so far, thank you. I will be trying the Speedway big bore calipers, not modifying them in any way. I did get my spindles from Mr. Levair but I think he normally deals with people who are a lot more familiar with Vairs than I am, his terse responses to my inquiries did not really help me. In a perfect world, someone would take pity on me and tell me part numbers to purchase. In the absence of that info, I will take a stab at Rock Auto or the local NAPA and buy some stock S-10 hoses and see how they fit (or dont'), then go from there. My goal is to have it back on the ground and be able to drive it to the Turkey Run at Daytona next month.

Image I found a hose kit from Wilwood that works. Wilwood p/n 220-12106. This has 22" long braded hoses. The advertising suggested it came with the correct hose ends, but actually it has generic AN ends plus adapters: 3/8"-24 to meet the hard line, 10mm banjo for the caliper end.

I use the wilwood 17" hoses with wilwood calipers. They fit the stock hard lines. There's a guy on ebay that makes custom stainless hoses you might try too if you want a specific length. A google search for 'brake hoses unlimited' will bring him up. I bought some stainless corvair rear hoses from him that are very nice.
