Michigan Monza build
Michigan Monza build
Hi guys, been a while since I posted the progress on the cars I bought and am working on.
I have been ebaying a bunch of the extra parts to pay for the build on the red Monza, and learning a bunch.
Thanks to anyone who bought parts and helped pay my parts bill!
I ended selling off the 2 convertables, both to good homes. One that was purchased in the very beginnings of restoration was sold off my trailer while stopping for gas on the way home from picking it up. This guy comes up and said he was looking for a car for his 10 year old son who has the hot rod bug already and wants to build a car to drive when he turns 16, lots of time to do the build.
The parts car has been scalped of any parts I could use off of it, so now its time to part the rest out, and scrap the body.
Then theres the one I wanted to build. I have done a bunch more than i wanted before hitting the road, from pulling the entire drive train,to sanding and buffing the paint to smooth it out. New headliner, wheels and tires, rewired a bunch, put a Balkamp tach from NAPA in the dash (fits perfectly in the clock hole), needs seat covers and carpet, that will come later, weatherstripping is on the way.
I got several engines in the deal and was told that 3 were runners, one of the three smoked, one in the parts car is good, and one that was rebuilt, but had about 20 years of dust. Thats the one i used, had good compression all around. Smoked a bit at the first startup, but more than likely from the oil i put in the cyclinders before turning it over.
Anyway, after a month I finally got it on the road to drive, what a blast! I'll post up some pics.

Been working on a couple of more upgrades, new black carpets and seats, the rear seats actually even fold down like the originals.
Re: Michigan Monza build
What seats did you use? How is the 20 year old rebuilt engine running?

Re: Michigan Monza build
The 20 year old rebuild is working great after the carb rebuilds, leaks a little at the push rod tubes on one side, i already got the new ones, just need to install. The seats are from a smashed and totaled 2014 ford focus, dont laugh, they are nearly perfect, and free of charge! If only they were leather.

The only thing I see is I would replace the fuel line in the engine compartment that has the fuel filter in it. I and many others recommend steel only in the engine compartment.

If I had to replace one thing, it would be the tail lights! Haha! Kidding. Just a little. Great looking 'vair
