Hi Richard, Yes, I do. That would be great. I'm struggling to get the middles wire harness out today. Bill is on his way to come help me out. I'll post a bunch of pics later.

Awesome! Bill came over this afternoon and helped me replace the harnesses.

I have a couple quick questions regarding which models of the following parts I should buy for the next steps.

1. Battery (any preferences? I've heard old cars and new batteries can be a little tricky) On Rafee's site he recommends an Autozone Duralast I believe.

2. Battery cables. Does anyone know offhand which length to get? The old ones burned so I forget exactly how long they should be.

3. Fuel pressure regulator. Which brand/kind should I get? Are they pretty much universal or do I need something specific?

4. Tail lights with sockets to connect to the main harness.

Hi ya Ed, just reminding you to call that number today I gave you for another fan. I would not put that fan on my car and you should not as well. What you discribed as little , the picture looks like a good crack. He will fix you up with fan . The down part is , you need another can of paint if you want to paint her. Save the old one and hang it on the wall or something to remind you. Bill is teaching you alot and pay attention, just ask him to give us a big smile next picture. Still work on cleaning out the fins on the heads while waiting for other parts and take your time. The claim is being processed on the broken meter I sent. The package was insured. Save the packing and box for UPS and they may call your number. The pictures you sent were very good, thank you. If I read the number right the RD shows that its a 65 - 67 manual block 110. Don't be afaid to call me late due to the time difference. I don't care what time. Question or talk its OK. . . . I may not have all the anwsers but will help you get them ... Your doing quite well and great getting the harasses replaced. Reminder again, the Alternator I sent does not have a internal voltage regulator. The regulator Marty sent is to be mounted on the wall above where your starter side is and wired in the harness. Ask Bill if don't know call RAFTy to asist. Say Ed, I know you needed a break but not all day Trying to call ya. Apparently I am told your fan looks like a 64 and the top bearing as well. I am told that the picture of the bearing looks like the top grease seal is gone. Give me a call and we can fix up this issue . cg

So we have made some progress ordering parts. Rich found some carbs that are their way! Should be a good fit. I'll start rebuilding them as soon as I get them. George I believe, mentioned that I may have to change the jets and that maybe I can swap them with the jets from the old carbs. (A big thank you Rich for soaking them. Saved me the $20-30 carb cleaner)

I placed an order with Rafee for some air filters, 2 fan belts, and some used battery cables. I'm going to pick up a battery as well.

George and I put an order in with Marty. A fan, fan bearing and mounting. I'm going to have my hands full this weekend and can't wait! I'll take a bunch of pics too!

GEE ED, that picture is awsome. Good humor and now you shown everyone how you look when you wake up. did you sleep with the top down or under the stars? In any case , I bet you had a bad crick in that neck Chin up and keep it up. Making great process. I had a good talk with Bill last night. True corvair man and with a personal full machine shop. AWSOME !!!!! Get it running and than maybe over to Bills garage shop to finish up. Bill has been a blessing that he is only a few miles away. Maybe offer some Manual Labor for Bill in trade . I than can rename you Manuual , just short for Labor I cordinated with Marty just before you called him and you will be getting another top with a rebuilt bearing, flange and 64 fan , gaskets . (No sense taking a chance with the bearing and crack fan) Its in the mail already. So when you guys change out the cover, take so more pictures of the inside of the block. You can than see what a crank and rod piston etc. other parts of what your boxer engine looks like. Its the guts of the corvair. You did not know that you had a electronic Pertronix ignitor. If its damaged, You have the tune up kit I sent. Snowed last nite so I have to go make my self busy. Talk to ya later today. Tag your it. ..........................CrazY GeOrgE

I've read some scary reviews on the fuel pressure regulator that was originally hooked up to my fuel line. I was doing some research looking to replace it (as it melted in the fire) and found this:

This made me think this part may have caused the fire....and I would like to replace it with something better. Which model do you guys recommend? (Please keep in mind that I can't put $180 on this part....)

I have not read every post in this thread so I don't know your rebuild plans for a fuel pump. If you plan to use a stock fuel pump you don't need a FPR. If you are using an electric fuel pump you "might" need a FPR but many people buy a correct low pressure pump and don't use one.

I don't like to use them unless I have to as it is one more part to buy and maintain. Original Corvairs never used them and thousands of people today still don't. The carbs only need about 3-4 PSI so if you buy a pump that puts out 10+ PSI you are going to want to use an FPR or have the pump pressure adjusted down if possible.

WOW!!!!....my gawd, that is really crazy!! Maybe if you truly believe the f.p. regulator was the cause, you could push for a little "compensation" from that company. Hey, check out this guy's comment....I can't believe he still had some positive things to say about it! LOL

Spewed gas out the adjust knob opening. Problem was a small pinhole in the rubber diaphragm, I used a 0-80 screw and nut with washers to plug the hole, works great now. Judging from the other reviews this is common so be prepared to tear down and do this. I really like this unit compared to the Spectre, much better made and easier to get apart. Too bad the factory is doing this, it looks like the hole was made on purpose which is totally bizzare.

I do agree with AZdave here and probably wouldn't even run a fuel pressure regulator with the correct, low-pressure electric pump. The only reason I did is because I was having fuel seepage issues with my YH Carter sidedraft turbo carb. Well anyway....this may be a low-budget regulator, but it's what I've used.

I suspect you're right about that being the possible cause of your fire. What a piece of junk! I agree with the last reviewer on that page... DO NOT USE!!!!
