LM vs. EM Debate.

I think a better (way more co$tly of course) solution would be to take a 4-door and make it into a 2-door. That would give the larger c-pillar they were trying to go for. It would have not been cost effective for Sprints or Stingers back then obviously but it would make a nice custom project for someone to do now. :)

I think the Yenko and Fitch treatments spoil the lines of the car. I'm not a stocker purist, but I don't go for the big fender flares, rear deck lid spoilers, but a functional not too "flashy" front spoiler that is effective rocks my boat. Non-stock wheels, yes too... But I'm still mostly a LM guy. Except for the wagons.

I was hoping this thread would help me decide which type to buy.....but it hasnt.....I like both in coupe form, and I agree that fitting the right wheels makes a lot of difference to the looks , but does anyone know how to make an LM fitch sprint look good? That roof is a no-no....and Yenko side glass cover is no better.... why spoil such perfect lines for the sake of change?

I think you should buy two. One each...Ha HA! Seriously I think from what I read and listened too, the LM's are more sporty and handle better with EM being more a Nostalgia thing or some connection like that. No help with your queston though.

Die hard LM guy, but I restored an EM four door for my grandpa and seeing some of the REALLY NICE EM's here, I can appreciate them all.

Show these guys some EM coupes with wide wheels, fat tires, and an aggresive stance. That is what changed my mind about earlies. Kinda wish it didn't, then I wouldn't have to find myself a spyder coupe to restore!

Gotta say, I really like having one early and one late in the garage =)

For a long time I've preferred the LM's. Then I saw a nice 64 at the Fan Belt Toss with a LM rear suspension. Since there are always more EM's for sale cheap on craigslist around here than LM's I started imagining the possibilities for hot rodding an EM once it had the better LM rear suspension. Just to be different. I've never seen an early with a Crown conversion. At a Corvair show I was looking a LM coupe parked next to a EM 4 door and noticed that the bottom edge of the rear window is further back than on the LM. Which made me wonder if a Toronado drivetrain conversion into an EM would result in the carb being under the glass instead of the rear cowl. The rear doors would make engine access easy also. Installing the LM suspension in the EM, the trailing links could be moved inward to allow for some really wide wheels and tires. It would be so much fun to pull up next to some Mustang or Camaro in a flat roofed EM 4door with that Buick big block rumbling in the back seat.

Early models had more of a variety of body styles and were classier looking, even the sedans and wagons had a classy and more upscale look to them.

The later model sedans look odd to me, but they handle better and the coupes and convertibles are downright sexy...
