Yes...I joined this forum to learn "corvair"...not bitch/read about global warming signs or our president re-elected by 5,000,000 more votes than the other guy....mind you...I am not afraid to tangle with anyone....but this forum is not the place for politics and tangling.

I would prefer quiet when it comes to politics...other forums that I visit...politics is not on the menu....my other cars are much more complicated than a corvair is so I was hoping that I could just cruise easy here and learn the corvair...believe me...I have about mastered building chevy v8"s and placing them in 55 ford pick ups, 51 ford cars, 49 chevys along with subframing them, all electrical systems from scratch, and putting them all together after taking them all apart...every nut and bolt out and cleaned, etc and they run the drive the first time out the door...never have I had to turn a distributor 180 like they do on these tv shows all the time....anyway...I usually take at least 5 years working 7 days a week, all year long, on one car before it goes on the road the first time...

Speaking of cars...and progress...my 66 corvair really runs nice...it is much faster than I thought it would be for a 110 with pg...very impressed. I really love the way it handles also as I have rebuilt the suspension and steering. This one is weeks only and on the road from a car that had been sitting for years to driving it everyday now...when I say I am impressed with the way it runs...that is saying a lot as both my other cars are pretty fast. Here is my vette on a little sunday drive...the accelarator pump was not working and the carb was rebuilt a couple of weeks after this video...it had been parked at my girlfriends all winter without driving it but my future owner wanted to ride in her vette so I pulled it out of storage for a little ride...much faster now that the accelerator pump is working....in 8 sec it went from rolling to way up there...about 3 sec in first...55mph.

Turn up the sound...the video will be re-done this spring with my Nikon 7000...this one was done with a small cell phone...lots of background noise...I apoligize.

49Chevy,

You sound like a good friend of mine who started out restoring Corvette's almost 40 years ago then went into woody wagons & about anything you can imagine. It takes a special kind of mind to do what he & you can do. :not worthy: He has given me advice on my Corvair although he says he doesn't know that much about them but he's a Chevy man. Here are a couple photo's of the 49 Chevy tin woody he did in 2 years, every nut a bolt is new & he does all the wood grain by hand. The owner had the upholstery done. While doing this 49 he also redid a front end on a 64 Corvette for the guy who own's the 49. He also had to redo a dash in a Corvette while working on the 49, he had to take the whole dash out and repaint everything & that took 4 days. I wish I had 1/10 of the talent you & he has. I wouldn't even attempt something like that. I only have enough smarts to keep them running. :sad5:

Jeff

49chevy- This is the "off-topic" area for a reason. If you don't want to read or get involved with it then don't. Truthfully, this has been a much calmer discussion than most forums with politics and hasn't gotten out of hand like they usually do.

64 Powerglide...thank you so much for the compliment...just keeping a car going these days is a feat in itsself...!!! :)

I will be photographing all the homeless vets tomorrow for christmas cards along with battered women. The guy that asks me to do this every year has a chevy woody like the one in your photos...almost identical as to quality of workmanship...but it is a slick black one...I judged a local car show in Oct with 200 plus cars and I made sure he won top 25...my corvette won last year because of the paint....if he drives it tomorrow, I will try and take a photo for you. That woody you have shown me would put my 49 to shame in my opinion...very nice.

Yes...5 years working everyday 7 days a week as I look back on it...don't think I could do it now....that is why I was so glad to get this corvair...as I told someone last week....I am used to buying cars that don't run...don't have an engine...etc....by the way, the 51 ford car I built was much worse than the F100 was...did not look it but when you opened the door, it fell down to the ground ....but you could see the ground from anywhere inside the car...it was much more of a challenge than this truck believe it or not.

I will, for example show you my 1st truck/car I built...it was a bear....it really went from a case of the real ugly to one of the nicest F100's out there...just the bedwood (hand picked by me) took about a month just to varnish, sand, varnish, sand....8 times and then took a lot of time installing it..painting the bed strips etc....it was nice...but I drove this truck about 6 years and 30,000 trouble free miles....I had placed a 71 monte carlo front clip in this one and it rode and drove like a monte with a truck body...never had it aligned....same with my 51 ford I built...never had it aligned after I installed a 84 monte clip in it....hate I sold that one...it was a super car...24 mpg running 70-80mph...I had built a 305 for it with z-28 heads like in my 49 chevy...the 49 has a hot little hi-po 283, 700R and 3.42 rear. I run with a 65 GTO and 64 409 when I go out of town to car shows...so it has to run good or get left behind... :)

Okay...getting late...will close for now...and again..."THANK YOU" for your comments....Jimmy

I go straight to the portal...it was right there in front of me....pretty hard to miss/ignore unless you are blind.

I just prefer that politics be left out of a car forum....but as you see....not afraid to give my two cents worth...and I don't car who you are !! or who you think you are....

I am strong politically....actually worked for the election and re-election of our president....so its pretty hard when its right there in front of you...most other forums that "tolerate this mess"...have it well hid out of site and you must make an effort to find it...besides...there are lots of websites that deal only in politics...maybe one should go there to discuss politics....NO?

I don't care who YOU are or who YOU think you Are! people here and on the other forum you caused trouble in Have been getting along fine with the rules without you trying to change them for your liking! I also think its funny you think I and people like me (Right Minded) Run scared from your so called Facts,,well I am here to tell you WE DON'T! I applaud you for your political convictions and the fact you went and Helped Obummer Lie ,cheat and steal a second term to further Destroy this country, at least you have conviction, even if its for the wrong Side!

Funny how the final comments about electricity seem all the more applicable to the Chevrolet Volt and other electric cars that were the pride of the Federal government, while the EPA simultaneously works to shut down coal production and coal-fired power plants (after killing-off nuclear power development and nuclear waste disposal plans for Yucca Mountain). Imagine millions of electric cars trying to recharge each day form the declining capacity of the national power grid. Where is this massive power feed supposed to come from?

Another favorite about gun control... imagine this solution easing the airport security bottleneck?

Pretty funny stuff there ....

One question....who started this post that does nothing but COMPLAIN and on the other forum also??? Duhhhhhhhh...you might try a mirror there fella...still waiting for you to tell me what law class you taught at Harvard...you know...when you said you were smarter than the pres....again...pretty funny....I believe it was constitutional law he taught....at Harvard.

You want a real liar....I'll give you one tomorrow..maybe 2 or 3....the only non truth I know of is when the pres said you could keep your current insurance....now about that. Most of these policies were in the 2-4 hundred per mo range....my cousin, a right winger had one in Atlanta...her dr wanted her to have a simple procedure....she called the Ins co....they said her policy did not cover that....another dr wanted her to have a different procedure he was worried about...again...she called...and you want to know that answer....yep, NO! Those are the ins policies you could not keep....THEY DID NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING...!! Rational thinkers would understand why they got cancelled....not the few closed minds here though. Ins companies now have to spend 80% of what they take in now....or refund the difference to their insured, lots of folks have received these payments from the crooked ins companies....my cousin had the procedures done....she got MEDICARE...you know what the republicans want to take away what the democrates gave the people of America....just like Social Security.

Did you see that republican lady at a Afordable Health Care meeting...."you just tell the federal gov to keep their hands off my medicare"....pretty funny also.

For your info...because you did not understand my earlier post or you did not even read what I said...I go to the portal page....do you not understand that...it has ebay corvairs and all the recent posts from all the catagories....most sites hide the BS you put out and make it semi hard to find even if you are looking for it.

As to those few that are on my case...thats fine...I just look at the source....not impressed evidently am I.

I have come to a conclusion you are just a typical left wing brain dead JERK! You started crap here and on the other forum Not me, you start crap and blame me,,Kinda like Obama blames Bush! Typical left wing finger point B.S. Your hero is a Total liar,he lies about EVERYTHING! But you with your brainwashed closed mind won't let yourself see the truth, buddy, QUIT YOUR COMPLAINING! Both these sites have been running like clockwork Until you came along and want to complain about them,,And the B.S I Put out? What about the B.S. you spew? You think your Opinion is the only one that matters and we should all just agree with you because you know whats best for Us because you helped Obummer win the election all by yourself with your strong political opinions!! Blah Blah Blah! And Health care? You mean that socialist Agenda thing the DEMOCRATS DID NOT EVEN READ BEFORE PASSING? Give me a BREAK! Its the worst thing to ever happen to the American People! ITS A JOKE! And now His Immigration plan? Ya like we need another 11 million freeloaders my tax money needs to pay for! How is that Ferguson thing going? I could Care less what your Opinion is at this point because I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK!!! You want lies? here are a Few.

Corruption and lies is the agenda of this administration, from fast and Furious to "I don't know Gruber" it does not take a genius to figure out what the truth is, if you actually pay attention!

A laundry list of lies and broken promises?
Barack Obama's lies; remember these?
"I promise that I will support traditional marriage - one man, one woman."
"I promise 100% transparency in my administration."
"I promise no new taxes on a family making less than $250,000 a year."
"I will allow five days of public comment before I sign any bills."
"I will remove earmarks from pork projects before I sign any bill."
"I will end income tax for seniors making less than $50,000 a year."
"I will bring all of our troops home within one year."
"I'll put the health care negotiations on C-SPAN so everyone can see who is at the table!"
"I'll have no lobbyists in my administration."
"I'll close Guantanamo."
"I'll resign if I don't cut the deficit in half by the end of four years."
"I'll cut the debt by half in my first term." - Obama, 2004 and 08.
"I'll unite the people of this great country."
"I will not take your guns or limit your Second Amendment." - CBS, 2007.
"My administration will be the most transparent you have ever seen."
"We will have a laser-like focus on jobs."
"We will examine every program line for line."
"The Affordable Care Act will help lower health care costs."
"I will use stimulus for shovel-ready projects."
"I will use stimulus money to support and grow the small businesses of this country."
And my favorite lie of all:
"I promise to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America."
Can anyone tell me how many of the above statements he has kept? Anyone?
And now he wants you to believe that his intentions for health care are for your benefit. Remember the old saying, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."
Anyone care to add to the list? The last one is very interesting.
Well, Obama, time to keep your promises, I only want you to keep this one: "I'll resign if I don't cut the deficit in half by the end of four years."
Do us a favor and keep this one.

Re: Global warming

I always figured that a hydrogen-powered hybrid, similar in concept to the gasoline-powered Toyota Prius, would be the next generation energy-efficient low-pollution car to enter the arena, as long as hydrogen production and distribution issues could be worked out on a large scale. A system to support gasoline-powered cars was difficult to establish in the early 20th century too, so it is possible. I never did believe in the electric-only cars. The long recharge cycle, lack of high-current capacity in the national power grid to absorb the added load, battery production issues, etc. indicate that the technology and infrastructure just aren't there yet to support 100% electric cars — except maybe as local, around town commuter cars — one step up from a golf cart. But a hydrogen hybrid does seem to be reasonable. I think that a hard look at further technological advances in nuclear power is also the way to move away from fossil fuels — as long as enough gasoline is still available to keep Corvairs on the road!

I already switched to an energy efficient tankless hot water heater years ago, and we are currently looking at upgrading our HVAC system to a geothermal heat pump. We live on a lake so a geothermal transfer grid on the lake bottom would be the way to go, I believe. I'm all for energy efficiency and a gradual transition away from fossil fuels. But it must be done in a way that accepts a gradual transition while encouraging new technological advances with realistic goals. Costly false starts that prove to be unobtainable produce a lot of negative publicity that discourages the country from even trying. And natural fears of nuclear disaster must be matched by solid technological advances with research and development that will satisfy our needs for large volumes of safe, non-polluting energy production. It can be done, but only if sound R&D efforts are encouraged in the private sector. Apparent insurmountable political and government barriers will not produce strong advances in this area. The French have made advances in nuclear power production out of necessity, since they lack natural resources to produce power any other way. America could really shine in this area, if the incentives seem to be there and political barriers fade to encourage realistic, safe advances. The whole world could benefit by America's lead in nuclear power development. A strong, realistic national energy policy that expands to include Canada and Mexico could make full use of the natural resources that North America enjoys. Fossil fuels need to be a part of that national energy policy so that realistic, forward-thinking goals can be encouraged to permit a smooth transition away from fossil fuels as technological advances permit it.

Very smart post...I am in agreement. The guy that painted my vette, who passed away recently unexpected, has the geo heat pump I think he said...one of his houses had that and he told me that his electric bill was extremely low...his garage would make 3-4 of my house much less his house he lived in...I was thinking around a $100-150 per month total....that house had 72 acres in Tryon, NC...a good horse farm comunity...he had bought another house about 3-4 miles up the road and tried to sell his big house to downsize....the smaller one was 38 acres. Butch was really a great guy...he had moved down here from Long Island...he sold a 48 bay body shop that had the Mercedes/BMW business, a 40 bay holding prep shop, and another in the woods holding area. We painted my vette outside under pines at his house...he had some really nice cars and he and I took them to lots of car shows. Two had 427 ford side oilers...I think he told me 22M for one of them in his 48 ford pu....his 40 ford conv with 8 different blues of house of color paint was nice but not his favorite...we normally took his 49 ford car or his pu most of the time to Pigeon Forge, etc.

I also have built some houses but never put in the geo....I was building and doing wedding photography and cars at the same time...my girlfriend never said one word about it...but we have been together 22 years now...I was licensed to build commerical or residentual but never had the $$$ to put in geo but I think you would be very happy with it every winter month and probably summer bill wise... I know Butch had a couple of tractors/back hoes and dug the ground on his own saving a lot of money....he had told me he had to go really deep to obtain the benefit of geo.

Will include his 40 below with the lesser 427...

Anyway...I agree and hope gas will be around for a while with our older cars for sure....I think supply and demand will play a role here. I currently have 3 cars that have to have premium counting the 66 corvair that I am throughly enjoying. My corvette has 11:15 to 1 compression thanks to Micky Thompson pistons when I rebuilt it in 84...they were the only ones that made a replacement for a 60 over 327 at that time for the 327-350Hp engine that is. My 49 has a 283 60 over with flat tops and Z28 601 hi comp 54cc heads...probalby 10 -10.5 compression....just guessing.

Okay...sorry I have yaked too much tonight....will shut myself up.
