Captains Log 11/26/2010... morale high... progress slow... cold as hell...

Changed speedo cable out to a brand new one today.
Put new wheel cylinders and hoses on drivers side. Left it disassembled because my arse was frozen and my brain couldn't piece the parts back together like that... Also because I had nothing to clean the pistons (brake cylinder pistons) with and they were nasty caked and dirty.

Any comments on rebuilding brakes would be appreciated guys... tips, pointers, don't forgets, good to checks, always do's, etc. Last time I did the brakes on the 68 I was 17 and relatively brainless... (this according to my dad).

i was 18 when i did the engine compartment on that car! i still have all the peices that i couldnt remember where to put, let me know if you want them!!!! lol jk!

LMAO... I always keep a bag full of parts that I can't put back in.... man it's crazy how many times I've had 5 or 6 screws from a laptop that I rebuild that I can't figure where they go... ??over-engineering??

In fact I've accumulated enough spares from rebuilding things over the years to fill 3 #10 coffee cans...

BTW - I think the wheel cylinders are originals... they are stamped with "Delco" and some part numbers.

My poor 68 has a black eye and hasn't taken a bath for a while....

Is this stock on a 66? As it is the secondaries never open even with the pedal on the floor. It smashes the spring almost the whole way down but not quite to the end and the gates never flinch.

My secondaries stick sometimes. I always go in and make sure they are not stuck before I start it.

Sometimes the secondary choke lockouts don' t open. Something the 65s don't have. Check for binding.

one reason 65's are better. hehe

I got rid of the springs on the secondary actuating rods and replaced them with an adjustable collar with a set screw. Very positive action, adjusted so that all four are wide open at the same time. The engine still operated on just the pirmaries until the right foot went down... The last version of the car was for autocross only, so it was always warm when run aggressively. Nice car, glad to see the previous owner is still involved in seeing that it stays in good condition!

i put alot of money, time and effort into that car. had a pretty hard time letting it to too. i deserve some recognition!!

She absolutely should be named the Michael Barney Car.... I even thought about a deck lid spoiler and painting your name on it in small silver script

a spoiler was somehting i had always wanted for it, i almost bought a yenko spoiler from that friend of mine with the yellow vair i told you about. just never happend. the script would be cool, and flattering lol. but completely up to you, after all it is "your" car now ;)
