Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Oh thank you I was expecting some serious negative feedback due to condition!! The wheel is a replacement, im really hoping for a saginaw too! The paint for the most part should buff, my aunts corvette was the same last year and a high speed polish did wonders! no I have the complete parts to put it all back together. The previous owner who drove it to were it sits, was worried about using the gas at the bottom of the tank so he fabricated a line and ran it to a steel canister in the back to get it across town, the original line and fitting is still connected to the tank and sits loose where it should be, so I assume, some premium fuel and connect that line and it should live!!! does anything look like its missing??

I agree! The turbo engine makes this one a definite go =) That car looks like an easy project to me, and Corvair guys won't give you any grief over your car not being "original" or "correct" etc. I've never once had anyone rip into me for customizing my Corvairs...
When I had my 68' Corvette (~ ten years ago) I couldn't go anywhere without criticism from someone about the "incorrect" custom parts. Corvairs put a smile on everyone's face regardless of how you customize them!

also the wood wheel appears to be the correct one for a (65-66 at least) Corvair. A special horn button is needed with the wood wheel, it doesn't go together like the normal one.

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
awesome Grymm thanks for the info on the wheel, and also thanks for the reassurance. I already feel positive amounts of comroderie with this forum, and you are all along way from me and we have never met. This is great, I am so happy to be here! I will hopefully have it home late next week, I spend next weekend at the local car show in my town, I am entering the car as-is, I always enter SOMETHING in the show. I cannot wait to share my "smaller than most" build with you guys. Thanks again.

Let us know how the car show goes. I bet you are pleasantly surprised at the amount of attention these cars draw.

Update, I picked up my corvair Saturday, a little fuel and a new battery and it fired up and ran beauty. I drove out of the car port, out the driveway onto the road with ease. Heres 4 new pics and a more overall view of exterior condition, let me know what you guys think.

Looks nice!!! If you find another in the same price range let me know.
I think that is a great car to start on. I look forward to seeing your progress.

That thing looks like it has tons of potential. You should do a banzai clean-up, rub it out, wax it, get some Naval Jelly on those rims and shine 'em up and Armor All the tires. Then take some "round 2" pics......I've found it's awesome motivation and also good to do so I can impress upon the wifey what a smokin' deal I got.
Good for the propaganda campaign.

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
either already lowered, or suspension is shot lmao not sure yet :s good buy for 2K I thought. The thing now is, I need 2 interior trim pieces and the ignition bezel ring, and clarkes does not make them...now what do I do???
Ormston
Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Ask. We can probably find those and ship them to you. Which pieces do you need specifically?
Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Judging by the aftermarket rims I'd say it was already lowered.ormston wrote:<null>
Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
chrome or silver ignition bezel that sits on the outside of the dash, keeps it from falling through the back.. and the two pieces of trim that are on the inside of the car, left and right sides of the windshield, not rubbers, the plastic "a" pillar covers.

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Just wanted to let you guys know!
I drove the corvair to the show this weekend, and had LOTS of attention, and to be honest, I didn't even have time to clean it up, it was still fresh and dusty. People loved it, 2 or 3 wanted to buy it, and I couldn't belive how they would walk right past my dads 1969 cutlass convertible with frame off restoration and my aunts 81 vett which recently had a restoration to get to my little car at the back that looked like I drove it from the barn to where I parked it, and I basically did... I bought a parts car yesterday and am hoping to get my interior back together and the correct driver mirror on the car, but wanted to let you guys know, very soon I will have signal lights and bumpers and glass and a dash (monza) and doors and a hood and trunk lid for sale, I will post pics very soon. I bought the whole car, instead of just the parts I need in hope that I can supply some of the people on here in need of hard to find pieces the chance to get some! (the guy with the car was going to scrap it when I got my 2 or 3 parts off).
