Re: Converting 1 Wire alternator back to a 3 Wire

UPDATE: I pulled the alternator and brought it to the alternator shop. I explained that I wanted the one wire internal regulator removed and replaced with internal regulator that allows the 3 wire connection. I explained that it was my understanding I needed this done to have my fan warning light work.
He tested it and said the warning light should work fine if I plugged in the wires in the top of the stator. So I went home re-installed the stator and just plugged in the wires like Brad B showed in his photo. I cranked it over and the light stayed on. I revved it a bit to see if it had to have a certain rpms to turn off. Nope, light stayed on. I gave up for the day.
The next day I go out and notice that the fan belt came off when I started the engine! I put it back on and tried again. This time the warning light turned off after the engine began running. I have driven a few times and it seems to be working. I wonder if the original shop installed a regulator that worked either way. He told me to run it with the one wire attached and he inserted a rubber plug that covered the other connectors on top.
I am not using the "Special Regulator Adapter" shown at the bottom of Brad (bbodie52) post.
