I was simply talking about the difference in width of the same tire on the 2 different width rims...negligible. If the rims both fit the tire will likely fit. The tire will still be the same width but will show a more bulgy appearance on the narrower rim...OK it might stick out a hair more on the wider rim but a very very small amount the tire is still the same width. This is why tuners looking for that very wide rim width stretch tires that are not wide enough on them as they still clear the fenders where a properly wide tire for the wide rims would not.

In fact from the link you posted the first rims were wider and right near the rim is where your clearance to suspension is minimal so since they fit there would be less issue with the narrower rims he installed after the first were stolen. Fender clearance is where there might be an issue due to the taller height of the 60 series but the poster indicates they fit so.....

short update: was at the tirestore today and they were so friendly to mount old ones for testing.

205/60/15 are fitting well and looking good - maybe a rubber issue with full trunk in corners.
195/60/15 is 10mm smaller in width and height (5mm from the middle) which makes at least no big difference.

I've decided I want to run my grandfather's old 66 impala ss hubcaps but I need 14" steelies to do so. Nissan steel wheels fit, but the hub cap does not. It's the way the rim is designed. So, any ideas where to get a 14" 4 lug that will accept a classic style hubcap?

Looking at buying the same size wheels for my 63’ which tires did you end up going with and how do you like them? The 205s or 195s

205 width on an EM works fine if you have the correct offset and height.
I've had more than one EM with 205s and one with 225/45R17s which fit with no modifications.
185/80R13s will rub the fenders on stock wheels sometimes. My Lakewood rubs and my original '62 Monza did also. Both at the top center of the fender lip when bottoming at full lock.

Hi,
as car is a "funcar" and trunk will never be full, The choice is fallen on the 205/60/15.

from my point of view: they're looking pretty good and it was the correct decision ;-) ....and there's no "rubbing"....

What spec wheels did you run with the 225/45r17? Would love to throw some 17s under there that fit without modifications.

They are some I picked up on Freecycle. I think they are 7" wide. I had to buy 1" spacers to get the offset correct.
