Olympics Feedback please
Olympics Feedback please
The Northeast Corvair Council (NECC) is considering conducting another
Corvair Olympics in 2011. The first Olympics was a three day event
beginning on a Thursday with time trials; drag racing on Friday and an
autocross and show on Saturday. And to cap it all off an informal awards
banquet on Saturday night.
This format proved to be a huge success. It was noticed that many of the
participants brought family members and made it a mini-vacation. For the
next Olympics the NECC is considering adding a "Family Day". On this day
we would let the cars rest and do fun things like a sightseeing road
rally, bus tour to local attractions or some other type of activity. Our
concept now is that this would be the second day following the time
trials.
The location of the next Olympics isn?t completely settled nor is the
schedule of events. We are looking now for input from our participants
about this idea of adding a family day. Of course this would increase the
costs because of another night in a hotel and other incidentals.
Please send us your comments to help us plan another outstanding events.
Thanks.

Sightseeing ???? In Indiana ?????
The first Corvair Olympics was a blast even though I got a couple of hard luck awards.
I don't have much interest in family day myself but it seems like a good idea for most people. I would participate tho.
Mainly I'm coming for the drag races and the parking lot get-togethers.
Remember that you do not need a high performance Corvair to compete and the guys in stock Vairs had just as much fun as the racers. Last time you could run any kind of car in the events .
I can't wait for the details to be announced . It takes some extra planning for me because I will have to travel by water , air and land to get there from Alaska. Last time I ended up towing my Vair 6400 miles by the time I got home.
A bunch of us got together and went indoor go-kart racing one night - I think I was the slowest driver there !
The NECC events have always been a highlight for me.
I will likely leave my car somewhere in the lower 48 next time.

If anyone is really serious about their car from the west coast to Indy you might consider getting a group deal from an auto transport company and all meet in a centralized location. It's not cheap but it really shortens the trip if you fly out.
I transported my car from Oregon to Buffalo NY a few years back with some other Corvair guys. tlevair wrote >>>>Kevin....you better weld your doors on...Im racing this time around....we'll have the bus to load up all the doors I collect! <<<<<<
Weld ????? ______ I won't even lock my doors
I will have to drive my truck this year --- so I'll have somewhere to put all the extra doors that I'll be hauling back !

Re: Olympics Feedback please
I know nothing about this event, what all is involved in this event and can a newbie with a stock car participate ? I am just as eager to just take in the sites & sounds and meet some of the names I see on here also.. I wish spring and summer would hurry up and get here, I cant stand just starting the cars I want to drive them...

I'm planning on being there. Will be flat-towing my '63 from Baltimore. Hope to be part of the eastern caravan (if there is one).
