KYB shocks for the '65 two door Monza

Post by RNader »

Anyone know the exact KYB part numbers for the front and rear shocks for my Monza coupe? I emailed KYB and they said that none of their shocks are indicated for Corvairs so they couldn't recommend. My loyalty and overtime money have gone to Clark's so far but I have a Amazon gift card and don't want to waste it. Thanks!

The front KYB shocks are not a direct bolt on, you need to change the lower mount, you want to use the Gas Adjust on the rear and the Excel-G on the front, Ca Corvairs sells them with the lower mount already changed to become a direct bolt on.

Thanks Dave! Appreciate the info. If these are “plug and play” then I’ll get them from C.C.

What's all this twaddle that all Clark's front shocks need additional bushings for $24?

The bottoming bumper is the lower rubber on the top shock mount on LMs. It is huge compared to a regular shock mount and doesn't come with any shocks I know of. Sometimes you have to grind the bead down on the shock rod to get it to fit the hole in the bottoming bumper.

Great, there goes more beer money!

Not sure if I even have those now. I replaced my shocks some 30 years ago... back when PepBoys and Trak Auto stocked Corvair parts!
