I've been reading back through your previous posts and developed a couple of questions:
You stated that you had dropped three valve seats. Were all three in the same head? Are any of the dropped valve seats a repeat of the same valve seat in the same cylinder, or were they all different?
In looking over your engine compartment, I noticed the Holley fuel pressure regulator mounted on the mechanical fuel pump inlet feed line from the fuel tank. Why would it be mounted there? Is there an electric fuel pump further forward at the fuel tank? Also, is the mechanical fuel pump housing just used as a fuel pass-through using a pump bypass plate, bypassing the mechanical fuel pump mechanism? If the mechanical fuel pump is still active, I believe that in this configuration the mechanical pump would still be establishing the fuel pressure fed to the carburetor, and the Holley pressure regulator would not be effective in controlling the pressure fed to the Carter YH carburetor. However, this setup would make sense if an electric fuel pump is in place at the fuel tank and a bypass plate is installed in the mechanical fuel pump.

Finally, I noticed your comment about power windows that had been fitted to your Corvair with good success. There were follow-up questions about your power windows, asking for pictures, brand and model details, etc., but you never responded. I got power windows installed on my 65 corsa and they work flawlessly. I think they were originally for a camaro and the shop did have to modify them. Also, they were really expensive , Italian brand...

Thanks for your reply. You guys seem to have way more knowledge than most shops that have tried their hand on my Corvair. As far as the fuel setup, I believe there is an electric fuel pump and mechanical as well with a bypass. I have to look at the build sheet again. I had the Holley fuel pressure regulator removed since the shop told me it wasn’t working and installed a stock oem mechanical fuel pump instead. Unfortunately it’s still unclear why my engine died on me and what the root problem is. I keep spending money with these shops and they don’t know what the hell they’re doing because I keep having the same problem. Now they’re saying it’s not a dropped valve at all. I had the heads removed and was told the valves, cylinders, and crank are all intact and unscathed which leads me to believe that this may be a fuel/turbo issue.
As far as the power windows, I will call the shop who had them installed and ask for a copy of my invoice so I can see the brand and model they used. I’ll keep you posted on the prognosis of the issue. I just want to be able to drive her before the end of the year.

The stock turbo carburetor is sensitive to fuel pressure.
The new mechanical fuel pumps have had issues with excessive fuel pressure.
The Holley fuel pressure regulator is a common fix on turbo cars - set to 2-3PSI.
Sadly you seem to be dealing with mixed messages from folks working on your car.
Our club rebuilt a turbo car to raffle years ago. Steve Goodman at Rear Engine Specialists in Colorado has experience with the Turbo Corvair and was very helpful. Per his recommendation we installed the Holley fuel pressure regulator and set it to 2.5PSI (sea level, less at higher altitudes) and that corrected a number of run issues. Also note the turbo carburetor was revised many times. I've seen mixed up parts from different years cause problems.

I’m going to dig up the invoice and see if the part descriptions are there. What I do know is that they are made in Italy and if I’m not mistaken they are for a Camaro modified for my corvair.davidalva11 wrote:Hi,
