Mystery under dash connector

Post by AZScott »

Can anyone identify what this is. While cleaning up the under dash wiring on a ’64 Spyder I ran across this spliced into the turn signal wiring. There are 4 wires that are tapped into the wires prior to the turn signal switch connector. The length of these wires is around 16 Inches. They terminate into a plate that looks like the back of a switch (first photo).

This is not in any wiring diagrams I have seen, and the splices into the turn signal are definitely something non stock that was added on. (second photo)

Curious to know what this might have been. A guess is that it was some sort of an added emergency flasher by a previous owner.

Looks to me like an aftermarket emergency 4-way flasher. Is there a flasher can in the circuit?

I think so also. I bet what you are holding is the contact plate of the switch.

Guys thanks, I am removing what is left of it. Kind of thought it might be the remnants of an emergency flasher. Didn't find a flasher can, or the rest of the switch , but I think your correct. Thanks again

Depending on the type of flasher that was on your car, some of the wires may have been cut. Let me know if you can't figure it out and I will help you repair the turn signal wires.

Thanks Dave, appreciate your offer. The damage was not that great, and no wires were cut, so I was able to remove it easily.
