What do we have here?
What do we have here?
Can you say GT40?
Though you could.
Let's just say that my 180 engine is about to get much more than it bargained for....

What HP figures do you anticipate with this one?
BTW, what is the hose for?

Re: What do we have here?
It should make better than 250 at modest boost, but the heads will be the limiting factor. The ones I have are only pocket ported stockers with OE tubes, but I'm betting that with the revised exhaust flowing throught a split .80 A/R turbine it will do alright. The tube is for the built-in wastegate.CobraJet wrote:What HP figures do you anticipate with this one?

Re: What do we have here?
How much boost will the Corvair cases take? I'm talking a DD engine here, not a racer or "Weekend Warrior" street/racer.
I can't wait to see how this goes for you. Lead the way!

Re: What do we have here?
I'd say the cases are fairly bulletproof, they aren't like the mag alloy cases a VW has that get pounded out mains after only a few thousand miles of hard use. My stock 180 case and original nitrided crank mic'd out perfect, it's still on STD bearings on the crank and rods. The thing to watch for would be pulled head studs, which I'd be willing to trust at 250, but probably no more than that. I'd have ARP's close to the 300 mark, it's just cheap insurance, especially considering the Corvair uses higher head stud preload than VW's do (it's like 35 lbs vs 18 or something like that). Head lifting is what you'd be trying to avoid...
Re: What do we have here?
Looks good. I was thinking about doing a gt30r. I need to research more on the flow numbers on the heads and what is need to flow more. Im thinking maybe to get the angle exhaust ports and build tubular exhaust manifolds to connect to it.
Re: What do we have here?
Should work well, I like the idea of a split turbine so each bank can be routed to it's own section of the turbine.
Re: What do we have here?
That's right and you have the option of it being actuated instead of external wastegate. I love the sound of external but the simplicity of an actuator is nice. Looking for 250 hp range with room to grow so it should do nice.

Re: What do we have here?
NOt sure if you are doing draw through , but if you are that won't work.. the bearings won't stand up to fuel. (According to Garrett)
Re: What do we have here?
No, it won't work with a carb. I'm gonna either blow through a 2-barrel Holley, or more likely put dual TBI units on and go the injection route.
