RB engine code

Post by skipvair »

I have a 65 corsa with a 915 Los Angeles build date. It has a 140 with T0217RR number on it. Obviously too late to be correct as I am pretty sure the engine would not have been built 7 months earlier.

The car came with an extra engine with T0915RB on it. Is it possible this is the engine for the car? I find it very coincidental, but harder to believe the engine was built on the same date the car was assembled. Aren't they usually built a little earlier?

I dont have to tell you how valuable and rare that RR code is. That is 66 Corsa with a/c only.
The 0915 RB case is definitely the original engine for your car.
RB is 65 and 66 Corsa 140 only.

The biggest news of 1965...

...One interesting note - This was the first year of the special high performance engine with 140 horsepower, but because of the placement of the additional carbs, the brackets to mount the compressor would have to be different. Chevrolet engineers chose to offer the C64 Air Conditioning on the 95 and 110 hp engines only. This means Monzas and 500 models only were made with RPO C64 - Factory Air/Conditioning - NO Corsas...

...For 1966 several changes in the mechanics took place. and Lo and Behold the 140 sprouted A/C !!! The even bigger news to A/C fans is - they finally got the darn condenser off of the engine!!! It was moved to its final resting place in the front of the engine compartment, where it received all of the incoming air. Finally - you could actually change a belt without a mechanical degree. As an additional benefit, the C-64 option became available on the top of the line Corsa model in its final year.

RB engine code

Post by skipvair »

I just thought it was strange to have the exact same date. I also have an RY code 140. I looked them all up. Just wasn't sure the build date would be exact. The car has a wierd 2 week span of date codes that was numeric only including no letters as was normal. Right now the RR engine has Starr Cooke modified Weber 3 barrel heads on it and a crower cam. I think built basically to Yenko Stage 3 specs. I want to rebuild other engine and was wondering which to build. I guess that answered my question. 4 carbs again, real mufflers and finally add AC so I can drive more in summer.

The build date on the body tag should read (if built in September) 09A, 09B, 09C or 09D.
My own car is 03D and the engine date code is 0324.

Yes it should, but it doesn't. I found a few other owners with numeric only codes, apparently in LA only, of 1965 models built in September 64 with numeric only codes. Appears to or limited to approximately 2 weeks.
