Thank you, davemotohead-you sure nicely cleaned up a bunch of Corvair engine compartments!

Brad Bodie-you sure know your Corvair stuff!

66CorsaGuy-those mufflers do not work with the stock exhaust hangers (which I did not have anyway) but they are mellow sounding and I like them. I'll post a new video soon.

Working on my Corvair project a little everyday!

This is the solution the prior owner used on the crankcase of my 65. Be nice if the metered orifice was on the opposite side of the pipe would make for a cleaner look. The pipe plumbs into the bottom of my air cleaner on the passenger side, this picture with them off shows it the best.

Looks pretty clean!
I doubt my heater will smell. I've got a lot of car to work on.

Flaps repaired and work! Brake lights and more.

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Put the bellows in boiling water and it grew. So I re-adjusted the linkage and hot air blows!
Got brake lights and blinkers! Had the steering wheel off and on a few times...uh.
Got head lights! A horn blows!
I'm a Corvair man.

Looking good Alan, a little bit at a time, is still progress. I am doing the same. I am a body man, for a living, and motivation to work kn MY project, sometimes runs thin.

Rear bumper and all lights!

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Hey Corvairs!
Thought I'd share a picture of the almost completed rear-end. The bumper is pretty straight, but needs a better cleaning and polish. The LR back-up lens is NOS. The other 3 that I had were all done with backing up.
The rear brake drums are out being turned.
The cat spent most of the day underneath my Corvair doing...nothing. It's mystified by me spending so much time under there, I think. Notice no oil drops on the cat!

Viewmaster-I hear you too. Inspiration is sometimes fleeting when you bust your ass all day, everyday. I suck at body work and it creates anxiety when I try.

Cheers to you!

Looking good! Tell me tho, are those NOS lenses without alum. ring? Do you have to remove your old one to installon the NOS??? That seems lame to me...

The LR back-up lens is NOS, had no ring, I glued one on. The LR taillight is NOS, no ring. It's the way they came.

All my NOS GM lenses came with the trim ring, I think yours must be aftermarket, like a Glow bright lens, or someone stole the trim ring, I have had 100 or so 65 NOS ones and they all come with the trim ring. In fact every NOS GM tail light I have ever opened came with the trim installed.

Hi davemotohead, I'll stand corrected as I purchased both of these on eBay and just knew that they were unused and new. Better to describe them as reproductions, look perfect though except that each one was delivered without the rings. The back-up lens was $40.00!

Did you know Clark's Corvair parts sells nice complete repro 65 backup lenses for 26.45ea? Their tail lamp lenses with ornament are $26.70 ea.

No I didn't check Clark's this time, not-so-terribleted. I have spread my money around different vendors, and Ebay. However, I have found out that I'm only 1/2 wrong, or 1/2 right. The back-up lens is a Glo-Brite repo like davemotohead determined. But, the taillight is a Guide 10 NOS without the ring. It looks exactly like the broken originals that I have in every way, except the ring.

I know a bunch of you guys are Corvair-Elites, that's why I like to check in with you. I'm a Garage-Corvair guy, just look in my garage! I disassembled and am now assembling a damn orphan 1965 Corvair Corsa from a stink'n, dirty, field. It's going to run hard, and drive right, or a bit better :tu:

Wonder if this lens was used in something other than Corvair that used it without the trim ring...shrug?

FYI Clark's lenses are top notch...I have used a bunch over the years....not quite new NOS but better than the glow brites I have seen.

Rebuilt Rear Hub Assemblies and Brakes!

Post by GasDaddy140 »

Wow! Feels great to be this far. I've got to get this sweet heap out of my garage. Step by step. Now I can finish installing new brake line. I'm starting it again today for fun!
Oh, does anyone care that I don't run an e-brake with a stick? I turn my wheels in a safe direction on hills.

E-brake to me is essential. Can be very handy during a brake failure and certainly makes parking less risky. I suppose you could always carry a couple bricks.
