Crank marks ?

Post by acarlson »

Anyone know (or have an opinion) as to what these marks are on the end of my crank ?

:dontknow:

Morse Code for E - I - S ??

DOT = E
DOT DOT = I
DOT DOT DOT = S

Perhaps some cryptic markings from a machine shop?

Honestly, the only marking I've seen stamped on the end of a Corvair crankshaft was an ampersand (&), which was used by Chevrolet on 140 hp and 180 hp Turbo engines to identify heavy-duty nitrided crankshafts.

A shop probably wanted to I.D. the crank. Sometimes folks bring back items and the shop wants to makes sure it was something they already worked on.
